Water main break closes main road in northwest Colorado Springs Wednesday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A water main break has closed a main road in northwest Colorado Springs.
Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Colorado Springs Police Department tweeted about a water main break. Colorado Springs Utilities later reported Rockrimmon will be closed all day Wednesday from Grey Eagle to Anaconda for repairs.
Around the same time, KKTV saw there was a reported outage in the area impacting about 2,000 CSU customers, but it’s unclear if that was connected to the water main break. That outage has since been resolved Wednesday morning.
We will update this article once we learn more about a potential cause, and when the road will reopen.

Subzero temperatures chill Southern Colorado
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Temperatures dropped below zero Friday night as Southern Colorado residents adapted to feels-like temperatures in the negatives.
Southern Colorado residents spent their Saturday in a variety of ways. Some cleared their driveways and sidewalks of the snow that fell Friday night while others opted to enjoy the snow, breaking out the tubes and sleds on Toboggan Hill Road in Monument.
Griffin Anderson, a USAFA cadet, said he and his friends had originally planned to spend their Satuday skiing.
“We were thinking of going up to Vail or Breckenridge but I don’t know, with the traffic and everything, we decided it probably wasn’t the best idea but this is honestly just as fun,” he said.
Anderson said he was surprised to find only a few people made their way out to the hill.
“I think it’s because it’s so cold, from what I’ve heard it’s usually pretty busy,” he said. “It feels freezing but I mean, if you have enough layers on and tubing, you’re moving up and down the hill so it feels pretty alright.”
Medical experts said those who choose to venture outdoors need to be aware of the risk of frostbite. The medical director of UCHealth’s Burn & Frostbite said if you think you have frostbite and need medical help, don’t hesitate.
“It really is an emergency, time is tissue and what we don’t want to do is have people come in days later because then, it’s too late,” Dr. Arek Wiktor said.
If you suspect you have frostbite, here are some steps you can take:
- Prevent additional exposure to the cold.
- Rewarm the affected area in warm (not hot) water for 15–30 minutes.
- Keep the affected area elevated to reduce swelling.
- Take over-the-counter pain medication like ibuprofen if warming is painful.
- Avoid walking on frostbitten feet or toes.
The another danger that comes with subzero temperatures is the freezing of melting snow.
While many roads across Colorado Springs had some level of clearing, one driver 11 News spoke to said that wasn’t the case up in Teller County.
“You can probably go up to 45 miles an hour or sometimes 30 miles an hour because it’s so dangerous,” Josue Mayorga said.
Mayorga said he took his family to Cripple Creek to see the Colorado Ice Castles on Friday. He said their drive back to Denver was so rough, he had to pull over in Colorado Springs to clear out his wheel wells.
“My car was shaking too much,” he said. “It was so packed it was not allowing to move up or down.”

Game Preview: Oklahoma State Back at Home for Matchup With Colorado
Oklahoma State is back at home with a chance to turn things around.
The Cowboys have won only one conference game this season, but it came in Gallagher-Iba Arena, which should give them some optimism in their next matchup. Coming off of a two-game trip to Utah, the Cowboys are desperate to get a win, and it could happen against one of their worst opponents in conference play.
Game Information: Oklahoma State (9-7, 1-4 Big 12) vs. Colorado (9-7, 0-5)
Date/Time: Saturday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. CT
Where: Gallagher-Iba Arena – Stillwater, OK
TV/Streaming: ESPN+
Spread: Oklahoma State -3.5
Total Points: Over/Under 145.5 points
Moneyline: Oklahoma State -170, Colorado +142
Over the past week, OSU has been in Utah with matchups against Utah and BYU. The Cowboys got throttled in each matchup but showed a bit of fight in their loss at BYU.
If the Cowboys can right the ship this season, it will have to begin with their matchup against Colorado. The Buffaloes are yet to win a conference game this season, and it is critical for the Cowboys to keep them winless in the Big 12.
Although the Buffaloes have struggled to find success in Big 12 play, they have been close to getting that elusive victory. They lost by only one point at UCF, which was the start of a three-game stretch of single-digit losses it holds coming into Stillwater.
Winning the turnover battle will be key for the Cowboys to come out on top. Colorado has had at least 14 turnovers in all five conference games and has only managed to force more than 11 turnovers in one of those matchups.
For an OSU offense that ranks 15th in points per game in conference play, getting easy scores off of turnovers will be instrumental to getting a win. Colorado has turned it over more than any other Big 12 team, which should fall right into Steve Lutz’s preferred style of forcing turnovers and playing fast.
Stopping Julian Hammond III will also be an important part of OSU’s attack. Hammond has been one of the only consistent scoring options for Colorado, averaging 15 points per game in Big 12 play. Keeping him off the foul line and forcing him into difficult decisions could erode the Buffaloes’ attack early and give OSU a runway to a convincing win.
