Demonstrators marching off the Hill Wednesday afternoon from a video of the protest posted to the CHS Facebook Group
“Yup, F Donald Trump,” says a Capitol Hill resident in their video posted to the CHS Facebook Group showing a hundred or so chanting protesters streaming by Wednesday afternoon on E Denny Way.
The afternoon demonstration starting in Cal Anderson Park had been promoted online as a warm-up for a larger rally planned on March 15th in a post encouraging demonstrators to march “for our reproductive rights,” healthcare, trans rights, and “to bring awareness to the housing crisis.” The marchers headed through the city to Seattle Center and kept mostly to the sidewalks to avoid conflicts with traffic and police.
Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson continues to be a center for protest. In the hours before Donald Trump’s inauguration and return to the White House, a few thousand demonstrators rallied in the park with speakers including newly sworn-in Governor Bob Ferguson, U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, and Sheley Secrest, president of the regional NAACP, before marching across the city.
There were no reports of conflicts with police or arrests.
Over the weekend, another kind of protest took over the park in a demonstration from light projection artist @lightguerrilla with a display illuminated on the landmark Gatehouse at the head of the park’s reflecting pool. Thanks to @streetphotojournalism for the pictures.

WA power companies prepare to help people left in the dark following windy night

TACOMA, Wash. – Tacoma Power says the entire service area could be in the path of strong winds overnight.
What they’re saying:
Both PSE and officials at Tacoma Power say they have crews on standby and equipment ready if the power goes out.
“We will work round the clock until everyone has their power restored,” said Melanie Coon, Media Team Leader, Puget Sound Energy (PSE).
While Coon says this latest round of wind isn’t expected to be as devastating as November’s bomb cyclone, it could still pack a punch.
“We ask people to have an emergency kit, to make sure they have supplies on hand,” said Coon. “Flashlights, batteries. Have they replaced the batteries since the storm? During the bomb cyclone, what have you done since that last storm?”
Coon says crews always tackle preventive maintenance to prepare in advance.
“They are trimming trees, they are cutting back vegetation, they are inspecting the lines,” said Coon.
She says trucks are also gassed up and ready to deploy overnight.
“Another thing we do is calling out additional help, additional crews in case it is a big storm, and we have to call crews from other, other contract crews from other companies,” said Coon.
The PSE team is also monitoring the forecast carefully.
“Looking at the southwest interior, which is Thurston County, Kitsap, Bremerton, Silverdale area. That is supposed to get some higher winds in this storm,” says PSE.
Tacoma Power has also been prepping its crews.
“They are ready to engage. Our trucks are ready. We have our equipment and our materials ready. If we do experience outages, we do have people to respond,” said Jim Boyd, Tacoma Power, Electric Operations Safety Manager.
Boyd says because of recent rains, there is the potential for trees to topple in addition to branches coming down.
“Some of the trees don’t have very deep roots because of the large amount of moisture that we get in this area. In high winds, as opposed to tree limbs breaking off, occasionally trees will uproot and go over,” said Boyd.
What you can do:
Here are some tips from Pemco Insurance and the power companies for safeguarding your home:
- Secure outdoor Items, like patio furniture
- Generator Safety; do not place in a garage or near entrances to your home to prevent carbon monoxide risks
- Unplug sensitive electronics such as computers and TVs that can be damaged in power surges
- Charge devices
- Replace flashlight batteries
- Fill up your car in case of an outage at nearby gas stations

Former Seattle Mariners Star Earns College Student $10,000 with Half-Court Shot

Former Seattle Mariners star Alex Rodriguez had an eventful day on Sunday, helping a college student at Bucknell University win $10,000.
A-Rod was at Bucknell to speak about business, but he was invited to take the half-court shot.
Per ESPN:
The three-time MVP was at Bucknell to speak about his company Jump Platforms, which he founded with two other entrepreneurs, Jordy Leiser and Marc Lore. Leiser is a Bucknell trustee

That’s great stuff, and that student is certainly lucky to have A-Rod as the ultimate “phone-a-friend!”
Drafted No. 1 overall in the 1993 MLB Draft, Rodriguez made his debut with the Mariners in 1994, staying through the 2000 season. He made the All-Star team four times with the Mariners and won a batting title in 1996. He also hit 42 homers and stole 46 bases in an incredible 1999 season. He helped the Mariners to the playoffs in the 1995, 1997 and 2000 seasons.
Despite hitting 696 career home runs and being one of the most talented players in history, Rodriguez is unlikely to get into the Hall of Fame because of his admitted steroid use.
In addition to the Mariners, he played for the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees, winning a World Series with the Yankees in 2009.
In his post-playing days, Rodriguez has become big in business, even appearing on the popular show “Shark Tank.” He also is set to assume majority ownership of the Minnesota Timbwerwolves of the NBA.
He also works for FOX on its baseball coverage.

Seattle Sounders vs. Charlotte FC: community player ratings form

On the heels of a clinical midweek road win in Concacaf Champions Cup, Seattle Sounders FC opened MLS play by reminding fans of their main issue from last season. Despite leading by only a single goal, Seattle appeared to be in complete control throughout much of the second half, repeatedly recycling possession and creating a few opportunities to grow the lead. And, as was the case last year, they were in control right up until they weren’t, conceding a late equalizer in comical fashion.
Welcome to the 2025 Seattle Sounders. Feel free to rate some dudes.
Here is a direct link to the form; we hope this allows everyone to submit a response.
Here’s the scale:
(Substitutes can be left blank if the player did not play enough to judge)
1 – Not a pro quality performance
4 – Average USL Championship starter
6 – Average MLS starter
9 – MLS All Star
10 – MLS MVP-quality performance
