Can you spot this alleged Orange County binocular thief?

This alleged thief may have been a little short-sighted with this plan.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, the Irvine Police Department made some chirps while asking for the public for information regarding a man suspected of stealing an expensive set of binoculars from a bird-watching equipment store.

The post, full of bird-related puns, showed video of a man hiding the binoculars in his pants before walking out without paying.

The incident took place on June 5. The pair of binoculars that the man walked out with is worth $4,800, according to police.

Security footage from outside the store showed him enter a gray Lexus sedan.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact njohnson@cityofirvine.org.
