Susie Hilfiger’s Connecticut compound sells for $25M discount
Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger’s first wife, Susie Hilfiger, has finally managed to offload her palatial Greenwich, Connecticut estate — for less than half its initial asking price.
First listed for $40 million in 2021, the sprawling property has been acquired for $15 million, Sotheby’s International Realty — Greenwich Brokerage listing agent Janet Milligan told the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the sale.
The approximately 20-acre spread last listed for $17.99 million.
“The market dictated the price adjustments,” Milligan said in a statement.
“When we launched the property, it was during the height of [COVID] and the average sales price in Greenwich had gone up, but the market has since stabilized.”
Despite being far from its original ask, the purchase price on Susie’s spot was also significantly higher than the $8.5 million she and her ex-husband paid for it in 1995.
The two divorced in 2000.
What’s more, it was also record-breaking for the area, representing the most expensive sale Greenwich has seen this year.
The grounds include an approximately 14,000-square-foot main house with seven bedrooms, a fireplace-equipped sitting room and distinctly unique features including a flower-arranging room and a silver storage room, the Journal reported.
There are also various outbuildings, including a guest house, a six-stall barn and three paddocks as well as a pool and tennis courts — not to mention extensive landscaping.
Tommy, meanwhile, also dumped his own Greenwich mansion relatively recently, back when the local market was at its pandemic peak. After listing the estate for $47.5 million in 2020, it was quickly scooped off the market “after just four showings, and three great offers,” The Post reported at the time.
“The house doesn’t feel very large because it’s cozy and warm. They used almost every room,” Milligan, who was also the listing agent for Tommy’s manse, told The Post of the mogul and his wife Dee Ocleppo’s use of their now former 22-acre, 13,344-square-foot home.

Broadcasters of Connecticut, Please Stop Saying 'Unofficial Start to Summer'
Maybe it’s just me, but did you notice throughout the Memorial Day Weekend that nearly every broadcaster on every Connecticut television and radio station called Memorial Day ‘The Unofficial Start of Summer’.
Holiday weekends are when the part timers of Connecticut radio and tv get their moment in the sun to anchor drive time broadcasts, but it sounded like they all used the same cheat sheet to me. Every single news and sports reporter, forecaster, or personality let the phrase “Unofficial start of Summer” fall out of their mouths at some point of their presentation.
NBC Connecticut was littered with “Unofficial Start of Summer” references on Saturday morning, so I switched over to WFSB Channel 3, and within a minute heard “Hope you’re enjoying this Unofficial Start of Summer’. I looked at my wife, and switched over to Fox 61, and heard it again, honest to God, within a minute. This can’t be happening, I thought, but it was. I put it to the test, surely WTNH and News 12 broadcasters didn’t get the memo that was sent to our Hartford stations, right? Wrong, I heard “Unofficial Start of Summer” on both within minutes of flipping. It wasn’t just tv stations either, every radio host said “Unofficial Start of Summer” too.
Broadcasters of Connecticut, have you forgotten how to say Memorial Day Weekend on it’s own? Did every one of you try to start an argument over when “The Official Start of Summer” is with us? I think we’re all in agreement that “The Official Start of Summer” is THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER, right? That’s June 20, 2024.
I’m unofficially done with this observation now, carry on.

Paid sick time to be expanded for Connecticut workers
HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB)—Governor Ned Lamont will sign a bill on Tuesday requiring businesses to provide employees with expanded paid sick time.
Under this new legislation, workers in Connecticut will be entitled to five paid sick days.
Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Senate President Pro Tempore Martin Looney will join Governor Lamont at 11 a.m. at the Narrative Project on Temple Street to discuss Public Act 24-8.
Previously, only employers with 50 or more employees were required to offer paid sick days, but the new law expands these protections to cover more categories of workers. Some Republicans have expressed concerns that the changes may negatively impact businesses.
The changes do not apply to seasonal employees or those with union benefits.
The bill signing ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Narrative Project on Temple Street in New Haven.

A girl nearly drowned in a backyard pool in Connecticut. Here’s a crucial reminder for parents this summer.
DANBURY, Conn. — Officials are reminding parents to keep a close eye on their children this summer after a girl nearly drowned in a backyard pool in Connecticut over Memorial Day weekend.
It happened Sunday at a gathering in Danbury, where the 9-year-old girl was spotted unconscious in a backyard swimming pool.
According to Danbury police, a bystander pulled the girl out of the water and rendered first aid. The girl was awake and breathing on her own by the time first responders arrived.
“It’s a holiday weekend and it’s a great family. We’ve never had problems with them, so we were curious as to why there were so many cops outside. But to hear what had happened and knowing she’s OK, it’s a huge sense of relief,” said neighbor Alyssa Enright.
“When there is a large group of people you’re hoping somebody’s watching, but that’s not always the case,” said neighbor Susan Enright.
What every parent should do when kids are swimming
Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler says it’s crucial to keep an eye on kids when they’re swimming.
“Someone designated to be the person responsible for watching the children. Especially if you’re in a municipal pool or some pool where there’s a lot of children. The lifeguards are really there not as the first line of defense, but the second line of defense. It should be the parents who are the first line of defense,” said Amler.
CPR can also make a difference in a drowning situation.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says about 4,500 people drowned each year from 2020 to 2022. That’s 500 more per year than in 2019.
The CDC urges parents to take advantage of free or low-cost swim lessons offered in almost every community.
