Minnesota sending team to help Iowa with tornado recovery

Minnesota will send a team to aid Iowa as it recovers from tornadoes that struck the state last week, Governor Walz announced last week.

Walz activated members of Minnesota’s All Hazards Incident Management Team to aid Iowa first responders in recovery efforts in the city of Greenfield. The small city was devastated last week as an EF-4 tornado tore through the town, knocking down homes and other buildings. Four people died in the destruction and dozens were injured.

Officials say the eight-member team from Minnesota is trained in “a variety of disciplines” to aid in recovery efforts.

The team was last activated to assist with Hurricane Ian recovery in Florida.

A few more chances of showers before a drier midweek

We could see a few showers south of U.S. Highway 2, but much of the region will start the day with sun. By the afternoon, the chance for a few pop-up rain showers will linger across northern Minnesota, and a few will track into northern Wisconsin as well. Temperatures stay in the 60s for most, with cloudy skies.

Wednesday, we are still cool, around 60 degrees for most, with clouds persistent early, but by the afternoon, we start to see sunnier skies. Thursday stays a mostly sunny day, with highs in the mid-60s.

Scattered showers return to the region Friday, and we likely will still see them off and on during the first weekend in June, but temperatures get up into the upper 60s and low 70s.
