Broncos elevate 2 players from practice squad for Week 2

The Denver Broncos have elevated two players from the practice squad to the game-day roster for their Week 2 showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Broncos called up wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey and running back Tyler Badie on Saturday afternoon. Badie and Humphrey will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Players can be elevated up to three times during the season without having to clear waivers to return to the practice squad. This marks the second straight week that Humphrey has been called up, so he only has one more free elevation remaining in 2024. This is Badie’s first elevation of 2024.

Humphrey is the team’s only practice player listed on the depth chart and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him end up on the 53-man roster later this season.

The Broncos’ game against the Steelers will be regionally televised on CBS and available to stream on fuboTV (try it free) for in-market fans. Denver is considered a betting underdog despite playing at home.

Broncos special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi is expected to interview for the Ravens head coaching position

Broncos special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi is expected to interview for the Ravens head coaching position

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, Denver Broncos special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi is expected to interview for the Baltimore Ravens head coaching vacancy. He previously interviewed for the New York Giants head coaching position before they hired former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. Now, Rizzi will interview for Harbaugh’s old job in Baltimore.

Rizzi, along with Vance Joseph and Davis Webb, can interview in person for these head coaching jobs starting next week after the Championship games. If the Broncos lose, all three coaches will be eligible to be hired that week, but if they advance to the Super Bowl, interested teams will have to wait until after the Big Game to officially hire them.

Back in 2024, Rizzi served as the New Orleans Saints’ interim head coach and ended up being a popular coach amongst the fans and players during his short stint there. He did interview for the job last season, but it ended up going to Kellen Moore instead. Rizzi would then reunite with Sean Payton in Denver to be his special teams coordinator with the Broncos.

It was a slow start for Rizzi with the Broncos as the special teams unit had some struggles. However, the unit continued to improve as the season went on and became a reliable strength of this team. Kicker Wil Lutz was mostly automatic this season, rookie punter Jeremy Crawshaw improved as the year went on, the coverage units were solid, and returner Marvin Mims Jr. was a weapon and had a punt return touchdown.

Rizzi will be the third Denver Broncos coach to interview for the Ravens head coaching position. The Ravens met virtually with Vance Joseph and Davis Webb during the Broncos bye week and now will meet with Rizzi sometime in the future.

The Ravens moved on from Harbaugh after a disappointing season and will be looking for someone to turn them back into Super Bowl contenders and get MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and that offense back on track.

When is the AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos?

The Patriots have a date with the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.

Head coach Mike Vrabel’s team advanced to the title game with a gritty 28-16 win over the Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

When is the AFC Championship Game?

New England will next travel to Denver on Sunday at 3 p.m. with a berth in the Super Bowl on the line. You can watch the game on CBS and Paramount+ and in the Boston area on WBZ-TV.

Head coach Mike Vrabel was asked how his team can block out the noise heading into next week’s game, as well as the noise from fans expected at Empower Field at Mile High, which is considered one of the toughest road environments in the league.

“We know the stadium is going to be loud,” Vrabel said. “Every opportunity — I think what we’ve done is we’ve asked them to embrace the preparation, embrace the strain and also enjoy every minute of this, enjoy walking into this stadium, coming in here, enjoy putting your uniform on, enjoy going out there doing warm-ups and enjoy seeing your family. But mostly enjoy the execution. We’ll keep doing that, and we know we’ve got to go on the road to a No. 1 seed in the AFC, and it’s not going to be easy. But we’ll come out and be ready to go.”

Patriots or Broncos to represent AFC in Super Bowl

New England caught a break before their game on Sunday even began. Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix suffered a season-ending injury in overtime against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

As a result, former Patriots backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham will be behind center against his former team.

Super Bowl LX takes place on Sunday, February 8. It is being held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the home of the San Francisco 49ers.
