Enron short seller Jim Chanos lists Miami Beach ‘mega condo’ for $25M


After 20 years of calling a luxurious Miami Beach “mega condo” with spectacular ocean views home, investor Jim Chanos is moving on.

As reported in the Wall Street Journal, Chanos, the president and founder of Kynikos Associates, just put this property on the market for $25 million.

Not bad, especially considering Chanos bought the impressive 4,776-square-foot pad situated on the 22nd floor of the swanky The Continuum brand-new in 2003 for just over $3 million. Still, Chanos has a reputation as a sharp business analyst, specializing in short sales — notably predicting the fall of Enron before it filed for bankruptcy in 2001, and pocketing handsome proceedings for his foresight.

Located at 100 South Pointe Drive, the home is listed with Julian Johnston, Crystal Connors, Mick Duchon and Eloy Carmenate, all of the Corcoran Group, at $21 million. However, for that $25 million asking price, a separate studio apartment on the fourth floor of The Continuum, and a spacious bi-level cabana by the private beachfront pool are included — and Corcoran is marketing all three together as complementary assets.

“The studio is a perfect addition for a live-in maid or even to accommodate overnight guests,” co-listing agent Johnston told The Post. “The cabanas have a mezzanine and are useful to store your surf boards and beach gear. But some residents use them as an office — you get the nice cool breezes rolling in off the ocean.”

That comes in handy if the work-from-home mogul wants a change from the two interior offices.

The condo is currently configured with three bedrooms and three full baths, plus a half bath off the large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. Unit 2203 is in original condition with top-line Poggenpohl-designed kitchens and bathrooms standard to The Continuum, but with the bespoke marble flooring that Chanos chose.

“It’s move-in ready or it’s a blank canvas for someone to create their own dream home,” said Johnston.

But it isn’t the swanky fixtures that immediately impress. The panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, Fisher Island and the Miami skyline via wraparound window walls is an instant selling point.

“It has 180-degree views, and because it faces south and west you get the sunrise in the morning and the sunset in the evening,” said Johnston. “And you don’t get the direct glaring afternoon sun. It really is the best of the best.”

Another wow factor is space. Not only is the almost 5,000-square-foot condo about twice the size of the average Miami home, but The Continuum building sits on a whopping 13.5 private acres.

“It’s the largest condominium footprint on Miami Beach,” said Johnston. Which means more room for expansive amenities, including multiple swimming pools, a state-of-the-art 20,000-square-foot fitness and spa center, three clay tennis courts, concierge services, valet parking and car washing, 24-hour security and private beach access.

“The amenities are superb. It has a private onsite restaurant by the pool and Catch just opened up by the building’s entrance,” Johnston noted of the New York City chain eatery’s new Miami branch.

Not that the neighborhood has a shortage of places to eat. The Continuum is located in Miami Beach’s desirable “South of Fifth” neighborhood, both tucked away from Miami’s tourism masses, but also within proximity to its top restaurants. Add in proximity to the beach and a good walkability factor, too.

“It’s right on the breakwater, near South Pointe Park, which just had a fantastic $15 million renovation,” said Johnston. “There’s a yoga pavilion, a dog park and a playground. You can walk to the park and then sit at Smith & Wollensky having drinks, overlooking the ocean,” he added.

South Florida’s residential charms have yet to wane after the pandemic influx — and Chanos intends keeping a residence there, opting for a single-family home in Coral Gables.

“Miami’s market has cooled a little,” said Johnston of the early 2020s boom. “But inventory is low. Given this property’s location and stunning oceanfront views, it is one of the hottest condos on the market. Even within The Continuum, it is in the more desirable South Tower, which is bigger than the North — the footprints are bigger, better.

“It’s about space, it’s about lifestyle — it’s about luxury, “ said Johnston. And that view? “That view can’t be beat,” he added.

NBA Mock Draft: Miami Heat Grab Backcourt Help


In recent years, the Miami Heat have garnered a reputation for adding difference-makers at the NBA Draft. Especially relative to their draft position.

In 2017 they grabbed All-Star and defensive savant Bam Adebayo at No. 14. One year later they selected offensive standout Tyler Herro at No. 13, and in the last two drafts have added major contributors in Nikola Jokic and Jaime Jaquez at No’s 27 and 18, respectively.

Now, most fans are assuming the team with again grab someone ready to hit the ground running and contribute at a high level.

In a recent mock draft I posted to YouTube, Miami did just that, selecting Devin Carter of Providence, another player who embodies Heat Culture. You can watch the full video below:

A 6-foot-3 combo guard, Carter came on as one of college basketball’s top producers last season. In 33 games, he averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, shooting 47% overall and 75% from the line.

Carter has long been a known factor on defense, suffocating both on and off-ball with 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. But his 3-point shooting boosted him to stardom, jumping from 29% on 3.5 attempts lasts season to 38% on 6.8 attempts this year.

In Miami, Carter would immediately provide a punch to the backcourt, with currently only has Herro, Terry Rozier and Josh Richardson.

Perhaps most importantly, Carter would be ready from the get-go, which is important given Miami will be looking to continue to win games.

Summertime for the Miami Heat is whale-hunting season. Even as Pat Riley and Co. have struck out on potential deals for Damian Lillard, Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell over the years, they make sure they are at least mentioned as a landing spot for almost every disgruntled star on the move.

This summer will be no different. Already the Heat have been linked to Mitchell and figure to factor in rumors for other stars who could be traded. 

But if the Heat have learned anything, it’s that simply being mentioned as a destination means nothing. Dreams for Lillard, Durant and Mitchell were all dashed for various reasons. 

What Miami didn’t have last summer, as it waited on a resolution on Lillard, was a backup plan. And so the Heat ran back their roster and toiled through a disappointing season that ended with a quick first-round exit after 2023’s Finals run.

The Heat need to make improvements to the roster and this summer’s most obvious target is likely Mitchell. But what are some other, perhaps more realistic options the Heat could acquire if Mitchell resigns with the Cleveland Cavaliers or is traded elsewhere?

Because we’ve covered Mitchell so much here already, we’re going to explore some other names the Heat could pursue. Let’s look at one dream offseason target for the Heat, another target who may be out of their budget and a realistic acquisition to help fill a team need.

Miami Police investigating shooting outside downtown Miami luxury apartment – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale


MIAMI (WSVN) – Authorities are investigating a shooting that left residents in a downtown Miami apartment scared.

Miami Police responded to a call of shots fired into Vizcayne South Tower apartment located at NE 2 Street Sunday night around 7:15 p.m.

“I could hear the like — gunshots,” said Anthony Nalbone a resident.

Videos and photos from residents show the aftermath of the scary shooting; bullet holes in living room and kitchen windows.

“Five minutes ago — I hear repetitive gunshots,” said another resident.

“I’m pretty sure it’s [glass] is on the carpets, there is some pieces up here too,” said a resident. “It’s [glass] everywhere.”

Residents all said they have no idea where the bullets came from.

“Legitimately — this is scary as f***,” said a resident.

Vivian Olodun, a resident who lives on the 45th floor, arrived home to shattered windows with bullet holes directly next to her baby’s high chair. She posted a video on Instagram of the damage and said “Miami — what kind of city do we want to be?”

Nalbone also heard the gunshots and was concerned for all the resident’s safety.

“Concern level is pretty high, anytime you’re talking about someone’s safety, someone’s life,” he said.

The bullets landed in the south-facing windows near the 44th and 45th floors. Like Olodun, other residents posted videos of the police response.

“The street is crawling with cops,” said a resident.

As the investigation continues residents want to know who is behind the shooting and why.

“Anyone could have been out on their balcony. Wrong place wrong time kind of thing. The biggest thing for me is finding out who did it and why,” said Nalbone.

No injuries were reported.

Details remain limited as police continue to investigate the shooting.
