LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Abundant sunshine will continue on Wednesday along with pleasant temperatures for January. It will be slightly cooler today, but still nice and less wind. A storm system in the southwestern U.S. will move into the central plains Thursday bringing clouds and scattered showers for parts of Nebraska. Above average temperatures will continue Friday through the weekend.

Mainly sunny skies and continued mild with highs in the 50s. A northwest wind will become southwesterly 5 to 15 mph.

Increasing clouds Wednesday night into Thursday morning with a few isolated rain showers in southern Nebraska after midnight. Lows in the 20s and 30s.

Mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers possible, mainly in southern and southeastern Nebraska. Highs in the 40s and 50s.

The heaviest rain is expected in far southeastern Nebraska where some locations could see half an inch to one inch of rain. For Lincoln and Grand Island, a tenth of an inch to three tenths of an inch will be possible. Very little if any snow is expected with this system.

Lincoln 7 day forecast indicates mild temperatures for the weekend and then turning colder next week.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska is part of a $59 million settlement with a drugmaker over kickback allegations.

On Tuesday, the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office announced a settlement with Biohaven Pharmaceutical Holding Company.

Nebraska will receive $62,688.71.

Biohaven is accused of giving health care providers cash and lavish meals to get them to prescribe Nurtec ODT, a migraine medication.

The company also paid some providers exorbitant fees for speaking at events, authorities said.

In some cases, the providers made more than $100,000 from the speaking engagements.

Thirty-seven other states, Puerto Rico and the federal government also joined in the settlement.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Greeley man hit the jackpot last year but stole the winning scratch ticket, court documents say.

Jeremiah Ehlers was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony theft by deception, according to Lancaster County Jail booking records.

In an arrest warrant affidavit, a deputy with the Nebraska Department of Revenue said Ehlers claimed the top prize of a scratch ticket worth $300,000 on April 12, 2024.

Ehlers was paid out $213,000 after taxes, according to the affidavit.

On April 23, the company that owns the Greeley Rapid Stop — where Ehlers worked as a store manager — notified the Nebraska Lottery about a theft.

The company provided investigators with surveillance video that showed Ehlers playing the winning scratch ticket before paying for it, the affidavit alleges.

After the winning ticket was validated, Ehlers paid for it, which authorities said was a violation of state law.

Investigators put a freeze on Ehlers’ bank accounts for $128,769.31.  Ehlers had spent the rest of the money on two vehicles, contractor services and payoffs to creditors, according to the affidavit.

An arrest warrant for Ehlers was issued on Jan. 3 and he was taken into custody on Monday.
