Report: Dario Saric picks up his player option with the Denver Nuggets for next season – Denver Stiffs

Per Marc Stein, Denver Nuggets forward Dario Saric is activating his $5.4 million player option for next season. This was expected – Dario Saric has had rumors that multiple teams are interested in his services in Euroleague basketball next year, but none of those teams were going to pay him $5.4 million. The contract was unfortunately a waste of the Taxpayer mid-level exception last year as Saric barely played at all even though DaRon Holmes was lost for the season with his Achilles injury and the Nuggets could still not find minutes for Saric.

Denver is unlikely to retain Saric for next season, but it’s possible that new head coach David Adelman has a different plan for him than former coach Michael Malone, who only found 210 minutes for the power forward despite Aaron Gordon’s season-long calf injury and the lack of other backup options at both power forward and center. If they do not keep Saric, it’s just a matter of whether they can use his salary in trade (for a team that can then buy him out of a portion of that contract which he can make up in Europe) or if Denver is simply going to buy him out themselves.

The hope would be for them to be able to save $2 million or so off the price of the option with that buyout, which would give them enough to add a veteran on a league-minimum contract to replace him, but whether or not Denver or another team does that Saric has guaranteed himself the payday that Calvin Booth promised him when giving him the player option in the first place.

Second victim dies over a week after shooting at Denver party celebrating Maduro’s capture

A second person who was shot at a party in Denver celebrating the arrest of former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro nearly two weeks ago has died.

Police are still searching for the person responsible for the shooting on Jan.3, which left two people dead and two others wounded. The Denver Police Department said a large crowd gathered in a parking lot near South Galena Street and East Hampden Avenue late that night, and an argument broke out. Someone fired into the crowd, striking 16-year-old William Rodriguez Salas and three adults.

The adults were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Police said a private vehicle also attempted to drive Salas to a hospital, but he died near South Havana Street and East Iliff Avenue.

On Friday, the DPD announced that one of the adult victims has died.

Authorities are still working to discover who was responsible for the shooting. They asked anyone with information on the case to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867 or through their website.

Broncos vs. Bills injury report shows 2 ruled out; 5 questionable for Buffalo

The Denver Broncos have ruled out two players for this game and both were only recently activated off injured reserve in both linebacker Drew Sanders and tight end Lucas Krull. The other two guys on the report both got full days of practice in on Thursday, so it looks like both defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers and linebacker Dre Greenlaw will be good to go on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the laundry list of an injury report from the Buffalo Bills has a lot more to digest. Cornerback Maxwell Hairston and safety Jordan Poyer were both ruled out. Five other players were listed as questionable: safety Damar Hamlin, wide receiver Curtis Samuel, linebacker Terrell Bernard, running back Ty Johnson, and defensive tackle Ed Oliver. I wouldn’t be surprised if all of them end up being available for this game if even on a pitch count.

Here is your full practice report for Thursday.
