Trump or Harris? Israelis discuss presidential choice as war with Hamas, other terror groups continues
Israel’s multi-front wars against Hamas and Hezbollah and fears of a wider Middle East war with Iran have made support for the Jewish state an important issue in November’s presidential election.
Fox News Digital recently interviewed Israelis in the capital city of Jerusalem to see who they thought would be the better candidate in November’s election โ former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris.
“He [Trump] has been president for four years and was an excellent president โ the only president of America who brought us somewhat closer to solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” Mordechai told Fox News Digital from the heart of Israel’s capital city.

Moti Stein, a professor at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, told Fox News Digital that Vice President Kamala Harris “is very good for Israel.”
He said she was “representing and maybe delivering values that are extremely important for the future of the Israeli society.”
The issue of concern for those interviewed who view the Democratic nominee as the best choice for Israel’s future is the continuation of democracy in the Jewish state.

Jerusalem resident John Golub, who, like Stern, was at a protest against Prime Minister Netanyahu near the country’s parliament, believes Harris is the best choice for Israelis. “Kamala Harris is committed to democracy, and I think she is the candidate of the two who will help Israel realize its future as a strong liberal, democratic democracy with a strong, independent judiciary that we need.”
Other Israelis were fearful of what a Harris administration might look like for Israel. Baruch Kalman told Fox News Digital that she’s not the right “candidate to help Israel,” complaining that he felt she is “concerned more about the Gazans and Hamas than she is about Israel.”
“Of the two candidates, Trump is the better candidate,” Kalman said. “He’s already shown his support for Israel, and he’s still supporting Israel, and he keeps his word, what he says, he does.”

Anna Gullko said that her support for Trump is due in part to his values that help form his policies. “I think his policy will be based on biblical values, what God demands of man.”
Zvika Klein, editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post, one of Israel’s most read English language newspapers, recently penned an opinion piece stating why he felt that Harris was the wrong choice for Israel.
TRUMP ‘PROBABLY WINS’ IF ELECTION IS ABOUT POLICY, CNN HOST SAYS
“Kamala Harris as president, I think, is something that should worry Jews and Israelis for a number of reasons,” Klein said.
Klein believes that there is generally a large amount of respect from the Middle East for world leaders who display strength on the global stage โ something that he says Harris is lacking. In contrast, he said the former president has demonstrated his support for Israel. Klein said that Trump’s track record in realizing the Abraham Accords and moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem exemplify Trump’s willingness to work with Israel.

Klein cautioned that a future Trump administration will need to have skilled people who understand the region as he had during his first administration.
“The question really would be if he’s going to โฆ actually bring back, or work with the same kind of close team he had,” Klein said. “Whether with his son-in-law Jared Kushner or David Friedman, who was the ambassador to Israel. Many people who are super knowledgeable about Israel and about the region. If those types of people actually continue to be close to the president and actually are able to affect him, that’s a good thing. And in general, the Republican Party is just so pro-Israel.”
There are up to 600,000 American citizens who live temporarily or permanently in Israel, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing figures from the U.S. Embassy. It also noted that some half a million of those citizens could be eligible to vote in November’s election.

Colin Jost Says โSNLโ Rejected Joke About Pete Hegseth Reading โPulp Fictionโ Bible Verse Two Weeks Before It Happened in Real Life
Donald Trumpโs defense secretary Pete Hegseth was widely mocked in April after he read a fake Bible verse from Quentin Tarantinoโs 1994 classic โPulp Fictionโ during a Pentagon worship service. It turns out Colin Jost sort of saw it coming.
During a recent visit to โThe Tonight Show,โ Jost revealed that before Hegsethโs viral gaffe he told the โSNLโ writers room: โWould it be funny if Hegseth just did that Bible verse that they have in โPulp Fictionโ Remember, from Ezekiel, Samuel L. Jackson?โ
The writers shot down Jostโs pitch, deeming it โtoo ridiculousโ and claiming it โwould take up all this time in the cold open. โAnd then he for real did it, like two weeks later and I was like, โWell, the good news is, Iโm being surveilled, so thatโs a relief.โโ Jost has been playing Hegseth on โSNLโ this season to much acclaim from critics and viewers.
The real Hegseth was at a Pentagon prayer service in April when he read the altered version of Ezekiel 25:17 thatโs delivered by Samuel L. Jacksonโs character in โPulp Fictionโ before he shoots a man. Hegseth said the prayer was recited by the โSandy 1โ Combat Search and Rescueย (CSAR) mission in Iran.
Calling on everyone to pray with him, Hegseth then read a prayer that was nearly word-for-word the line delivered by Jackson in Tarantinoโs film: โThe path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of camaraderie and duty shepherds the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brotherโs keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother, and you will know my call sign is Sandy 1 when I lay my vengeance upon thee. Amen.โ

The man was detained and was being questioned at police headquarters as authorities worked to determine whether he was under the influence of substances or acted deliberately, the mayor said.
Mezzetti said the vehicle entered one of the cityโs main streets and “drove onto the sidewalk, sending several people flying,” before crashing into the shop window.

Lampedusa migrant landing: newborn dies, probe opened
Published on โขUpdated
A tragedy unfolded in the night between Friday and Saturday on the island of Lampedusa, where a newborn migrant baby girl just a few weeks old died of hypothermia immediately after disembarking and while being rushed to the island’s outpatient clinic.

At 4.30 a.m., after being rescued by the V1307 patrol boat of the Guardia di Finanza, 55 people from Cameroon, Cรดte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Nigeria and Sierra Leone landed at Favarolo pier. Among them were seven women and six minors. The baby girl, whose condition immediately appeared critical, was taken together with her mother to the medical facility, where doctors could do nothing but declare her dead.
Investigation opened into the baby girl’s death
The Agrigento prosecutor’s office has opened an inquiry into the tragic case and ordered a post-mortem examination of the child’s body, a necessary step to confirm hypothermia as the actual cause of death.
The body is being transferred to the mortuary at the Cala Pisana cemetery, while in the coming hours the mother will be questioned by investigators to reconstruct the details of the crossing and establish exactly how and when the baby fell ill.
According to accounts from other migrants on board, the group had set off from Sfax-El Amra in Tunisia at around two o’clock yesterday morning, making the journey in a seven-metre metal boat that cost between 400 and 600 euros per person.
The baby girl’s mother, originally from Cรดte d’Ivoire, was later taken to the hotspot in the Imbriacola district together with her other daughter, aged around two. According to reports, the woman is currently in a severe state of shock over the loss of her child and is receiving continuous support from staff of the Italian Red Cross, which manages the island’s reception centre.
The centre’s director, Imad Dalil, confirmed to Italian media that psychosocial support measures had been activated. “The mother and the sister are here in the hotspot and are in good physical condition; for them and for the other people psychological support was activated immediately and in the coming hours the medical and psychosocial teams will continue their work,” he said.
NGOs’ reaction
The German NGO Sea-Watch voiced its outrage in a strongly worded post on X. “While the state attacks those who save lives at sea, investigating the captain of Sea-Watch, a one-month-old baby has arrived in LAMPEDUSA, dead in her mother’s arms, after a three-day crossing. Who will be held responsible for this injustice?” The outburst refers to the news, received by the NGO after arriving in Brindisi with 166 rescued people, that a criminal investigation has been opened against the captain of the Sea-Watch 5 on suspicion of aiding illegal entry.
The UN agency specialising in the protection and assistance of people forced to flee war, violence and persecution (UNHCR) also intervened to express deep condolences and grave concern over yet another victim claimed along the Mediterranean routes.
“A mother has lost her newborn daughter, who arrived dead this morning together with 54 other people in Lampedusa. Deep sorrow and concern for the many children and adults who should not be dying in the Mediterranean,” reads a post published on social media by UNHCR, which explains that the agency is on the ground providing assistance to the mother and all the other survivors of the landing.
