I have discussed this topic in the past, but it’s one of those things that never seems to fade in the minds of Miami Dolphins fans as a whole. As long as websites have been available on the internet, where people have been free to share any opinion they wish for the whole world to see, there has been a long-running complaint from many in our fan base that the media just flat-out disrespects or hates our Dolphins.
Many theories about why this happens center on the fact that most of the national media is based in the northeastern US. Many of the talking heads in this industry also come from places like New York, where, if they grew up as fans of one of the local teams, they probably grew up to hate the Dolphins, especially if they grew up in the 70’s or 80’s when the team was somewhere between great and at least good nearly every single season.
I, for one, have never really cared. First off, like many of you, I also grew up a diehard fan of the Miami Hurricanes football program. As such, I long ago learned to embrace the hate as I suspect it will always be there, even if most of their “reasoning” about the team being this way or another behavior-wise is tied to teams that are 30-40 years in the past. Ironically, many of those same players who were labeled as bad guys, thugs, etc., were then cheered and loved by the very same people once they joined their favorite NFL team. Funny how that works…
I can also remember a time, mostly because I am old, when this team was always good and, most years at least, a threat to get to the playoffs and do damage. In those days, and mind you, the media landscape was much different without the internet; the media was not so negative towards the team. In fact, I still have several old magazines, like Sports Illustrated, that had the Dolphins or Dan Marino on the front cover or in a positive featured story. Mind you, this was all during a time when the team was somewhat feared by other teams, not just the poster child for ineptitude.
So with that in mind, this evening’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:
If you ever did in the first place, do you believe that the national media still shows utter disrespect for the Miami Dolphins, and if so, do you believe that this is deserved, earned, or just regional bias against a team that resides in a place that most of them wish they could actually live?

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has located an 18-year-old man who went missing in Northwest Miami-Dade.
Detectives said that Ritchie Laguerre was recovered early Saturday morning.

One of the most highly touted offensive line prospects in the 2027 recruiting class has recently announced their college commitment.
As the summer months begin in the college football offseason, recruiting efforts and momentum around programs are higher than ever as coaches look to add as many talented players as they can to their upcoming recruiting classes.
With so much happening in the next few weeks, many prospects are beginning to shut down their recruitments and make their commitments known. The latest player to do so is offensive lineman Mark Matthews, one of the highest ranked players in the 2027 class.
According to 247Sports, Matthews stands at just over 6-foot-5 and weighs 300 pounds. The offensive lineman has been heavily recruited by programs such as Miami, Georgia, and Texas A&M, as well as many other notable programs.
Despite the efforts of many, Matthews elected to announce his commitment to Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies. His decision is a massive victory on the recruiting trail for A&M and will likely have immediate benefits once he arrives on campus next fall.
Offensive line prospects are always a major commodity for the Bulldogs, no matter the class. While the Dawgs put forth massive efforts in Matthews’ recruitment, the staff seems to have fallen just short of adding a massive piece.
While this outcome is certainly disappointing, the Bulldogs still have a handful of extremely talented offensive line prospects currently committed. The Dawgs are also set to host their annual “scavenger hunt” recruiting trip this weekend, which will almost certainly lead to some commitments.
As the summer months continue, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs’ staff will be diligently working to add as many talented players as possible to their 2027 recruiting class. The Dawgs typically pick up momentum during this time of year, and will likely have a handful of commitments in the following weeks.

The full 2026 NFL schedule was released on Thursday night — including dates and times for all 17 regular season Miami Dolphins games. However, following that release, the NFL also released preseason schedules for all teams — and a familiar face will be returning to Miami to face-off against the team that made him the #5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was released by the Dolphins this offseason, but quickly found a new home in Atlanta with the Falcons. During the final week of preseason action, Tagovailoa will be returning to South Florida when the Falcons play the Dolphins on Friday, August 28th at 7:00 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium.
It is not uncommon for NFL teams to practice against each other for a few days leading up to a preseason showdown, so Tagovailoa may find himself on familiar ground for longer than one game if the Dolphins and Falcons choose to mix it up in Miami Gardens ahead of their Week 3 preseason tilt.
Of course, plenty of teams rest starters during the final week of the preseason, so Tagovailoa may not actually end up seeing the playing field when the game kicks off, but seeing the former first-rounder on the sidelines again in Miami — albeit on the visiting sideline this time around — will be a peculiar sight nonetheless.
