LOS LUNAS, N.M. — New Mexico correctional officers are processing one other act of violence in opposition to one in all their very own. The division confirms an inmate on the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas attacked a guard and physician contained in the jail final week.
“We all know we’re going into work not figuring out precisely what’s going to occur,” stated J. Montano with the 3422 Correctional Officer Union.
Union management stated the dangers are solely getting larger with inmate violence.
On the facility in Los Lunas, Douglas Cornell tried to assault a physician on the best way to an appointment. New Mexico State Police confirmed he used a sharpened toothbrush. The escorting corrections officer stepped in and took the brunt of the assault. The officer was later taken to the hospital.

Cornell is serving time for kidnapping, aggravated battery and little one abuse. Now, extra expenses are on the best way.
In March, an inmate stabbed a pregnant feminine officer on the state jail in Grants.
Union management stated incidents like this have gotten extra vital due to lack of staffing.
“We’ve misplaced a unprecedented quantity of officers and there’s simply nothing being accomplished to actually compensate for what we’ve misplaced,” Montano stated.
He stated it’s a problem that’s plaguing jails and prisons statewide.

“The pay shouldn’t be the one side we have a look at, it’s the staffing, it’s the remedy of workers, it’s the decency that the division has for us, and proper now, the division shouldn’t be taking good care of us,” Montano stated. “It’s positively one in all our lowest factors of morale that we’ve ever had.”

The toy drive is now underway. Here is how you can help.
SANTA FE, N.M. — The City of Santa Fe launched its Northern New Mexico Toy Drive last week with the goal of serving around 8,000 children.
According to the city, that is how many children are in-need. Now through Dec. 15, you can drop off donations at several locations (see below).
The toy drive will benefit more than 40 organizations and monetary donations will go toward buying gifts locally.

Organizers are also hosting an ugly sweater fundraiser Dec. 6 at the Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos. Tickets are $25 and all proceeds will go toward the toy drive.
The Northern New Mexico Toy Drive started 15 years ago with less than 100 children and quickly ballooned into what it is today.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Tru Washington scored 19 points as New Mexico beat Texas Southern 99-68 on Sunday night.
Washington added 10 rebounds and four steals for the Lobos (5-1). Mustapha Amzil scored 18 points, shooting 6 for 15 (2 for 6 from 3-point range) and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line. Filip Borovicanin finished 5 of 6 from the field to finish with 11 points.

Kavion McClain led the way for the Tigers (0-5) with 15 points and six assists. Jaylen Wysinger added 12 points for Texas Southern. Zaire Hayes finished with 10 points.
New Mexico took the lead with 1:13 remaining in the first half and did not give it up. Washington led their team in scoring with eight points in the first half to help put them up 38-31 at the break. New Mexico extended its lead to 77-48 during the second half, fueled by an 11-0 scoring run. Borovicanin scored a team-high 11 points in the second half as their team closed out the win.
