HAYMARKET, Va. – An investigation continues Wednesday into a massive home explosion in Virginia that completely destroyed a house in Haymarket. The blast displaced two families but miraculously, four adults and two children escaped unharmed. However, some family pets remain missing.

Firefighters responded to the 5900 block of Colby Hunt Court in Haymarket just after 4 p.m. Tuesday for a suspected gas leak. They evacuated the home and several others as a precaution. About an hour later, the house exploded.

Jarrett Struniak, one of the displaced residents, told FOX 5 he was renting the home with his fiancée, their 3-year-old daughter, his best friend, his wife, and their son. The household included two dogs and three cats. He said two of the cats remain missing.

Struniak said the homeowner had hired a contractor to fix a water main break, and crews with heavy equipment hit the gas line. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced families, and fire officials said that natural gas service would be turned off to eight nearby homes for up to two days while repairs were made.

Several vehicles were damaged by flying debris from the explosion. The gas company has secured the leak, and officials assure residents there is no further danger. The official cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

EVESHAM TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) — A man was arrested in South Jersey on Tuesday after allegedly killing two people inside his Virginia home.

Authorities say he fled to Burlington County after the murders in attempt to locate his family.

Officers were called to a residence on Kelly Drive in Evesham Township around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police responded to reports of a man standing outside the home, pointing a firearm at the relative. When officers arrived, the suspect had reportedly fled the area.

Investigators say the suspect was identified as a relative, 49-year-old Amandeep Singh, who allegedly traveled to the scene from Prince William County, Virginia.

Singh was looking for his estranged wife, authorities say.

Police later located Singh in Medford Township on Tuesday. He was found in his vehicle and was arrested without incident, according to investigators.

During the arrest, officers say they found Singh with multiple firearms, including a .40 caliber handgun, an AK47 rifle, and four fully loaded high-capacity magazines.

After being taken into custody, Singh was transported to Virtua Hospital Marlton Campus for evaluation and treatment. Authorities said this was unrelated to his arrest and time in police custody.

At the hospital, Singh allegedly assaulted an Evesham officer by kicking him. The officer was uninjured.

Authorities say a welfare check was later issued for Singh’s home in Virginia. There, police reportedly found two people dead inside the residence.

Virginia law enforcement says the double homicide took place Saturday, the day before Singh arrived in Evesham Township.

Authorities identified the victims as 45-year-old Joshua Lee Davis and 45-year-old Nicole Wanda Lynn Davis. Both died from apparent gunshot wounds, according to police.

Investigators say the victims were married and renting the basement living area of the home.

As a result of the investigation, Singh has been charged with crimes in New Jersey and Virginia.

He was charged with murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault on law enforcement, possession of weapons with unlawful purpose, and other related offenses.

An investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.

Newly released bodycam footage shows a Virginia police officer fatally shooting a knife-wielding woman who slashed the officer during a wellness check last month.

Fairfax County Police released the footage after uproar at the death of the woman, 33-year-old Sydney Wilson. The footage shows crisis intervention officer Peter Liu approach Wilson’s apartment after her doctor raised concerns about her mental health.

Liu knocks on the door and Wilson initially answers before quickly shutting the door again. The officer then continued to knock on the door for nearly 10 minutes.

The footage shows Wilson opening the door suddenly and immediately slashing at Liu with a knife. The officer quickly backed up into the hallway and drew his firearm and ordered Wilson to retreat.

Wilson can be seen pursuing Liu with the knife raised as Liu continues to retreat further down a dead-end hallway. He repeatedly issued verbal orders for Wilson to “back up,” and she stops briefly when he raises his firearm but then continues walking toward him.

Liu retreats until his back is up against another apartment door, issuing commands to “please back up,” all the while. Wilson continues to approach him with the knife raised and then slashes at him again.

Liu fires his gun as Wilson continues to attack him with the knife. He pushes past her into the open hallway, but Wilson grabs him and continues attacking him with the knife, and Liu fires more rounds.

The officer then retreats into a longer hallway as Wilson collapses.

Footage from a pair of officers who responded moments after the incident shows Liu’s face covered in blood from where Wilson had slashed him in the forehead. One of the officers attempted to resuscitate Wilson, but was unsuccessful.

“Our police officer acted valiantly. He certainly exhibited some grace under pressure,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said in a Monday press conference.
