5 teens, including 4 Texas Roadhouse employees, found dead after car lands in Florida retention pond
An out-of-control car landed in a southwest Florida retention pond where it went underwater, killing all five teenagers in the vehicle, authorities said Monday. Four of the victims worked together at a nearby Roadhouse, a restaurant manager confirmed.
The accident in Fort Myers, Florida, happened either late Sunday or early Monday, killing three women and two men, all ages 18 or 19, according to officials the Fort Myers Police Department.
The names of the teens weren’t immediately released. No further details were made public Monday.
Interim Fort Myers Police Chief Randall Pepitone said he was there as officers and deputies worked to retrieve the victims from the car and perform life-saving measures, but there were no survivors, CBS affiliate WINK-TV reported.
“My condolences to the family of these victims,” said Pepitone.
A manager at a nearbyTexas Roadhouse confirmed to WINK-TV that four of the teenagers worked at the restaurant.
“I was in complete shock. I can’t even focus in class today. It was insane,” Ibrahim Shaw, a friend and coworker of the victims, told the station.
Flags at the restaurant were seen flying at half-staff on Monday afternoon, WINK-TV reported.
In a Facebook post, the Texas Roadhouse said it was “deeply saddened” by the loss of the four workers.
“Our team is grieving alongside their families and friends,” the post said. “We appreciate the support of our Ft. Myers community during this difficult time. “

The Texas A&M Aggies continue to have a busy offseason after finishing the first regular season under head coach Mike Elko.
Texas A&M hosted 2026 five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell for a visit over the weekend and clearly impressed one of the best players in the recruiting class. Cantwell told On3’s Chad Simmons that he “likes the Aggies a lot.”
“The visit was good,” Cantwell told Simmons. “I enjoyed College Station and getting to see everything I needed to see. … They made me feel like a priority this weekend. … The development, culture, coaching staff and continued interest make the Aggies a contender. We will see how the official visits shake out, but I like the Aggies a lot.”
Cantwell, a product of Nixa (Missouri), is the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 3 overall player in the 2026 class, per 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. Name a program and he’s likely received an offer from them. He’s also taken unofficial visits with Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, TCU and Tennessee.
Both of his parents were Olympians, so it’s not too surprising that 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks described Cantwell as having “a stellar athletic profile.”
“Tall, big-framed offensive tackle prospect with a stellar athletic profile and pedigree who’s an advanced mover at this stage of development,” Brooks wrote.
If the Aggies can beat out the rest of the country and land a commitment from Cantwell at some point in the future, he’d join a Texas A&M 2026 recruiting class that features four-star talents like receiver Aaron Gregory, quarterback Helaman Casuga, tight ends Xavier Tiller and Caleb Tafua, edge rusher Samu Moala, defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin and receiver Madden Williams along with three-stars like safety Markel Ford and cornerback Ryan Gilbert.

As North Texas wraps up the weekend, there’s a noticeable shift in the weather, leaving behind the icy remains of recent storms.
Drivers faced hazardous travel conditions from Wednesday night until Saturday, facing snow, sleet, black ice and slushy roads. Fortunately, the temperatures have stabilized, hovering in the 50s, making travel more manageable.
Sunday will feel warmer in the sun, and the mild weather will continue throughout the week. However, residents should be prepared for a notable change ahead.
Cold air is expected to return late next Sunday and continue into the following week. While it is still too early to provide exact temperatures, it is wise to start preparing.
There is a possibility of mixed precipitation, including snow or ice. However, since this forecast is quite far out, many factors could change.
The model-projected temperatures and the widespread nature of this upcoming Arctic airmass are likely to make national headlines next weekend. All trends point to a significant wave of cold air sweeping across the south and southeast.
Although the forecast is still uncertain, the Euro Weather Model — one of the most reliable weather prediction models worldwide — has consistently shown the potential for wintry precipitation returning to Texas with this next cold snap.
It will certainly be cold enough, but North Texas residents should monitor trends to determine if any precipitation is likely.
