Portland police involved in fatal shooting with armed robbery suspect near Mall 205
Authorities in Oregon said an attempted armed robbery suspect was shot dead on Wednesday following a clash with police officers.
The Portland Police Bureau said police officers were dispatched to Southeast Washington Street in Mall 205, a popular enclosed mall, shortly after 3:30 p.m., when they confronted a suspect who was armed with a gun.
According to the bureau, the suspect was wanted for a previously reported robbery and had an active warrant for his arrest. He was attempting to steal merchandise when he was confronted by police, they said.
“When they located the suspect leaving the store, officers moved in to arrest him in the parking lot. The suspect started running from the officers. As the suspect approached Southeast 96th Avenue on the west side of the mall parking lot, there was a confrontation and shots were fired by officers,” the bureau said. The suspect was injured and received care at the scene.

‘THIS IS THE WILD WEST’: LONG POLICE WAIT TIMES IN MAJOR CITIES LEAVE VICTIMS FEELING HELPLESS
Detectives with the Portland Police Homicide Unit are investigating the fatal incident.
“Use of deadly force by the police always has a significant impact on the members of the police bureau, the family of the involved person, and our whole community,” said Chief Bob Day, who responded to the scene. “I look forward to learning more about this incident after Detectives have time to do a complete, thorough investigation, and I want to assure the community that we will share more about the circumstances as soon as we can.”

Dallas Cowboys Full OTA Schedule Ahead Of 2026 NFL Season
The Dallas Cowboys’ goal of having a bounce-back season in 2026 after missing out on the NFL playoffs for two consecutive years begins on Monday, June 1, with the start of organized team activities (OTAs).
OTAs are voluntary, so the whole squad will not be on the field when the team returns to The Star on Monday afternoon, but it’s our first look at the veteran players coming together with the impressive 2026 rookie class to begin preparations for the new year.
Dallas completely revamped its defense in the offseason after firing defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and hiring Christian Parker away from the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, so there will be plenty of attention on the defensive rebuild.
One of the players who will have all eyes on them when OTAs kick off is first-round pick Caleb Downs, who made a positive impression during rookie minicamp. Downs impressed the Cowboys front office, coaching staff, and star players with his poise during his first camp as a rookie, and the hope is that he can develop into the defensive leader that Parker needs on the roster.
There will also be plenty of positional battles to watch, from determining who will start at EDGE, linebacker, and even a heated competition in the team’s loaded tight end room, so there is plenty for fans to look forward to as the team ramps up its offseason program.
When will the players be strapping up their helmets for OTAs and minicamp over the next few weeks?
A full look at the schedule for the Cowboys’ offseason program and preseason can be seen below.

These Miami pizza spots rank among America’s best
Miami is many things: a beach town, a nightlife capital and a place where people will gladly queue for a cafecito. But increasingly, it’s also becoming one of the country’s most serious pizza destinations.
That’s according to the newly released 50 Top Pizza USA 2026 ranking, one of the world’s most influential pizza guides, which just named three Miami pizzerias among the top 15 in the United States—and gave the city another major nod in its ranking of the country’s best slice shops.
Leading the local charge is Francesco Martucci, which landed at No. 5 nationally, making it the highest-ranked Florida pizzeria on the list. The restaurant finished behind only a handful of heavy hitters, including New York’s top-ranked Una Pizza Napoletana and California standouts Pizzeria Sei and Tony’s Pizza Napoletana.
Two more local favorites—La Leggenda and ‘O Munaciello—tied for 11th place nationwide, giving Miami three pizzerias in the guide’s top 15. That’s a remarkable showing for a city that, until relatively recently, wasn’t exactly mentioned in the same breath as New York or Naples when pizza debates broke out.
And if your pizza preference involves a quick foldable slice rather than a sit-down pie, Miami earned another bragging right. Miami Slice was named the third-best pizza slice shop in the country, trailing only New York’s L’Industrie Pizzeria and Washington, D.C.’s Slice & Pie.
The rankings were unveiled on Wednesday during an awards ceremony in New York. This year’s guide features 116 pizzerias across 29 states, with Florida earning 10 total entries—trailing only New York and California for overall representation. For a city better known for stone crabs and Cuban sandwiches, that’s a pretty impressive slice of recognition.

Raccoon tests positive for rabies after attacking dog in metro Atlanta
Gwinnett County officials are warning residents to use caution after a raccoon tested positive for rabies over the weekend.
Officials say the raccoon attacked a dog near Biltmore Oaks Drive in the Bethlehem area on May 26.
Testing revealed that the animal was infected with the potentially deadly virus.
The disease, which can be transmitted through bites and scratches from infected animals, is almost always fatal in humans once symptoms occur. Those symptoms include muscle aches, fever, vomiting, and general weakness and discomfort.
The National Association of State Health Veterinarians says all unvaccinated dogs and cats exposed to a rabid animal need to be quarantined for four months and vaccinated one month before being released.
Georgia is a rabies-endemic state, which means the virus can be found in wildlife year-round. Officials say that means it’s important for residents to make sure their pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations and avoid animals that may be behaving in unusual ways. Earlier in May, a DeKalb County raccoon tested positive for rabies.
If you have been bitten or scratched by any stray animals or an animal suspected to have rabies, seek medial care immediately and let your provider know about the possible exposure. After that, contact GNR Public Health at (770) 339-4260 and ask for the on-call epidemiologist.
To report an animal behaving in an unusual way, call the Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement Bite Office at (770) 339-3200, ext. 5576.
