Josh Christopher, Pelle Larsson Lead Miami Heat To Summer League Title Game

The Miami Heat avenged their only loss of the summer, a California Classic defeat to the Golden State Warriors by clawing back to defeat the Warriors 102-99 Sunday night in NBA 2K25 action at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The Heat will take on the Memphis Grizzlies Monday night at 8 p.m. for their first ever summer league championship. Should the Heat win Monday night, they will be awarded with championship rings and a trophy.

“We always want to win,” Heat summer league coach Dan Bisaccio said after the game. “So no matter what, when we have an opportunity to win a championship, of course we’re going for it. It doesn’t matter if it’s summer league, it doesn’t matter if it’s some kind of spring ball. Whatever it is, we’re always going to want an opportunity to compete for a championship.”

Miami was trailing by ten points in the third quarter before they turned the game around. Miami went on a 27-11 run to grab a temporary lead in the fourth quarter. The game was at issue until the waning seconds.

Josh Christopher had another big fourth quarter as he scored 13 of his team-high 23 points in the final stanza. He had a big three-point play with 40 seconds left to give Miami the lead they would not relinquish.

“We’re not done, obviously this was a big win,” Christopher said. “Our goal is the same, to win a championship. I’m really just honing in on a road that impacts winning and we are doing that as a unit.”

Pelle Larsson added 21 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals. The game marked the first time this summer that the guard went over the 20-point mark. Kel’el Ware continued his domination of the summer league with 18 points and five rebounds.

Warriors former first-round pick Kevin Knox II scored a game high 31 points to pace Golden State.

Miami airport stabbing: Woman stabbed, almost thrown off fourth-floor railing

A woman was stabbed multiple times at Miami International Airport late Saturday night creating a chaotic scene as airport operations were disrupted and there was initially a fear of an active shooter, according to reports from officials.

The woman was hospitalized in critical condition and a man, who allegedly tried to throw the woman off a railing, is in custody, according to multiple reports. According to airport officials, the airport was back to normal operations on Sunday.

“In the midst of the chaos, officers received reports of a possible active shooter,” Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, said in a statement released Sunday morning, according to Local 10 News.

Rodriguez said in the statement the stabbing happened shortly after 11:30 p.m., at the airport’s Terminal J, on the fourth floor. The man tried to throw her off a railing.

According to a police statement released to Boca News Now, the victim “was able to escape the attack and ran down the stairs to the 3rd floor level, which is where the officers found her.”

The statement said responding officers took the suspect into custody and recovered the knife. The victim was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Rodriguez told Local 10 News that the incident disrupted airport operations and Boca News reported the airport was on temporary lockdown.

Woman in critical condition after stabbing at Miami airport, police say

A woman was stabbed inside a terminal at Miami International Airport late Saturday, sending her to the hospital in critical condition and prompting a disruption of service, police and airport officials said.

An adult male suspect was arrested at the scene, the Miami-Dade Police Department said.

The woman was attacked at about 11:30 p.m. in the upper level of Terminal J, in the international arrivals hall, police said. The “situation was swiftly contained,” airport officials said.

“We want to assure the public that the situation is under control and the safety of our passengers, staff, and visitors remains our top priority,” the Miami-Dade Aviation Department said.

Passengers nearby had to rerouted to other checkpoints or terminals, disrupting traffic through the airport for about two hours, officials said.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (July 20, 2024) – Chicago Fire FC (6-12-7, 25 points) fell 2-1 against Inter Miami CF (18-4-5, 53 points) on Saturday night at Chase Stadium.

Defender Rafael Czichos scored his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute, and Homegrown defender Justin Reynolds made his MLS debut against the Herons.

The home side opened the scoring in the sixth minute when midfielder Robert Taylor carried the ball up the left flank and ran it along the endline. Taylor tapped it back toward the top of the box for midfielder Matias Rojas, who sent it inside the far post.

Chicago leveled the score in the 73rd minute when Cizchos carried the ball up the left side of the field and into the 18-yard-box. Czichos took a shot, sending the ball into the net between the near post and Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender.

Miami regained the lead in the 75th minute when Jordi Alba took advantage of a miscleared ball that landed in the box, sending it into the goal.

NEXT MATCH: Chicago will start its run in the 2024 Leagues Cup on the road against Sporting KC on Sunday, July 28. Kickoff at Children’s Mercy Park is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass.

Homegrown defender Justin Reynolds made his MLS debut, entering in the 86th minute for Allan Arigoni. Reynolds became the second player to play for the Fire wearing No. 36, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Andre Reynolds II.
Additionally, with his appearance tonight, Reynolds became the 21st Homegrown Player to feature in an MLS match for the Men in Red.
Rafael Czichos scored his first goal of the 2024 season, and his sixth overall for the Men in Red.
Gastón Giménez made his 10th start of the season, and donned the captain’s armband for the fourth straight match. Giménez’s assist on Czichos’ goal was his third of the season.
Chris Brady registered seven saves in the match, marking the second time in his young career that he has registered five or more saves in back-to-back matches (March 18, 2023 vs. Cincinnati and March 25, 23 at Inter Miami CF).
