Suspect arrested in murder of 22-year-old at Augusta nightclub

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Richmond County deputies on Wednesday arrested the suspect they’d been seeking in connection with a fatal shooting early this year at a local nightclub.

Michael Dequez Scott, 29, was arrested Wednesday on a murder charge for the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Chrishawn Martin on Jan. 20 at Club Rain, 1855 Gordon Highway.

Scott is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to deputies.

The shooting sparked efforts by some in Augusta government to penalize the nightclub for the perception that it attracts crime. It was put on probation by the city, but then the penalty was reversed.
