AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The early Saturday rain and clouds did not stop the fifth annual Meet a Machine event at the Augusta Regional Airport. 

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the proceeds from the event helped benefit the Children’s Hospital Miracle Network. 

At the airport, people were able to interact with different trucks and machines from EMS vehicles to aircrafts and much more. 

“We, as the airport, love to provide community events. We want everyone to come out and look at our facility and learn more about the airport. We can’t be successful without the community, so this is our way of giving back,” said Assistant Director Of Marketing Lauren Smith.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – On Friday, United States Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff announced they secured over $8 million in federal funds for Augusta Regional Airport.  

The grants were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and made possible in part by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.  

Awardees for the latest set of grants include the Columbus Airport, DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, Dalton Municipal Airport, Polk County Airport, Southwest Georgia Regional Airport, Augusta Regional Airport, Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and Georgia Department of Transportation.  

 The Augusta Regional Airport will receive over $8 million for taxiway construction and upgrades. 

“Georgia is one of the most important aviation states in the nation, and as a member of the committee responsible for aviation policy, I will continue working to strengthen Georgia’s transportation infrastructure,” said Warnock.   

“Georgia’s airports are a key driver of job creation and economic competitiveness. Alongside Senator Reverend Warnock, I am pleased to announce the bipartisan infrastructure law will deliver more airport upgrades across the State of Georgia. Our bipartisan infrastructure law will continue to deliver long-overdue upgrades to Georgia’s infrastructure for years to come,” said Ossoff.
