As part of Mayor Andre Dickens’ Moving Atlanta Forward agenda, the mayor’s office announced two investments would be made into the city’s infrastructure.

According to the mayor’s office, the City Built for the Future pillar of the MAF agenda will be getting investments in water infrastructure and roadwork in southwest Atlanta.

The projects include roughly $47 million to pay for the replacement of pumps at the Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant and for the completion of the Fairburn Road Complete Street Project, which spans from Fairburn Road at the edge of city limits to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

City officials said the roadwork includes resurfacing, creating of share-use paths, bicycle lanes, curbs and sidewalks, signal and intersection upgrades, landscaping and water drainage improvements. The road investment will cost $33.2 million.

For the water infrastructure, the four pumps mentioned will be replaced at the treatment plant, plus upgrades to current equipment, work to restore previous pump capacity and improvements to energy efficiency and performance delivery.

The water infrastructure will cost roughly $13.78 million.

“Investments in our infrastructure are always worth every penny—whether above ground or below. From ensuring our city is water resilient to having safe, connected streets that reflect a community’s pride, these are funds well-spent and pay dividends for generations,” Dickens said in a statement. “Thank you to Councilmember Boone and Councilmember Hillis for sponsoring these projects and thank you to City Council in advance for helping move them forward.”

The iconic location in Inman Park will feature performances by Noteworthy and Jon Q, as well as balloon animals and caricature artists for kids. The event starts outdoors at 4 p.m. in the Krog Street Patio.

Atlanta Funk Fest

Details: The hip-hop and R&B music festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this year with two lineups in Atlanta. Owl at Home

Details: Watch the adaptation of Arnold Lobel’s illustrated book come to life, part of the Center’s “Theater for the Very Young” series. With myriad puppetry styles and an actual Eastern Screech Owl appearance on the 16th, the show is for anyone over the age of two. Tickets to any performance also include admission to the Worlds of Puppetry Museum and the Down in Fraggle Rock exhibit.

The NBA season is still a couple of months away and the regular season schedule has yet to be revealed, but the Atlanta Hawks preseason schedule was released today. Atlanta is going to play in four games, starting on Oct. 8th and they will play two games at State Farm Arena.

Atlanta begins exhibition play on Tuesday, Oct. 8 versus Indiana (7:30 p.m.) before heading to Miami to take on the Heat on Thursday, Oct. 10 (7:30 p.m.). The Hawks return home to take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, Oct. 14 (7:30 p.m.) and travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder in Atlanta’s preseason finale on Thursday, Oct. 17 (8 p.m.).

Three of the four contests (Oct. 8, 14, 17) will be broadcast on the Hawks radio flagship, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game and the Hawks Radio Network, with Voice of the Hawks Steve Holman and pregame, halftime, and postgame host Mike Conti. The preseason broadcast schedule on Bally Sports Southeast will be announced at a later date.

This is going to be a chance to see some of the new faces on the Hawks for the upcoming season. The guys that are going to generate a lot of buzz going into the new season are No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher, Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu, and of course, star point guard Trae Young. Risacher flashed his wide skill set during his time in Las Vegas at NBA Summer League while Daniels got to play on the world’s biggest stage and showed why he could be a huge part of the Hawks rotation this season. He looks like the kind of elite defensive guard that Atlanta has needed to play alongside Young.

It will also be interesting to see how the depth shakes out. On paper, the Hawks are a deep team, but I want to see how some guys like Mouhamed Gueye, Kobe Bufkin, and Keaton Wallace perform.
