Right now, the Chicago Bulls don’t have any stake in the 2023 NBA Draft. They don’t have a first-round pick, as theirs landed at 11th and thus conveyed to the Orlando Magic, and they don’t have a second-round pick, as the NBA stripped it away from them after they concluded Chicago broke tampering rules when signing Lonzo Ball.
But just because Chicago has no picks in their arsenal right now doesn’t mean they won’t look to add some. In fact, their activity surrounding the draft could suggest they may choose to do just that. According to KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, the Bulls recently met with a group of 2023 prospects at the NBA Draft Combine.
One of those prospects was Arkansas guard Anthony Black, who revealed he met with the Bulls. The 19-year-old point guard spent one year with the Razorbacks and will now enter the 2023 NBA Draft.
Black stands at 6-foot-7 and has a 6-foot-8 wingspan. In his one season at Arkansas, he averaged 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game on 45.3% shooting from the field and 30.1% shooting from behind the three-point line.
The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor compares Black to Ball, listing his best qualities as his floor general abilities, his feel for the game, his on-ball defense, and his off-ball defense.
Most mock drafts have Black going just inside the top 10, meaning the Bulls would have to pull off a massive trade to jump up and select him.
Of the teams in that range, the Washington Wizards (pick eight) and Dallas Mavericks (pick 10) stick out as the most likely potential trade partners, as both are looking to put together competitive rosters.
