Vivek Ramaswamy Now 2nd In Race For US President Candidate Pick, Trump 1st

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, once considered a chief rival of former president Donald Trump, has fallen behind two Indian-American presidential candidates in the latest GOP polls in the crucial early primary state of New Hampshire, a CNN survey showed.

According to the CNN/University of New Hampshire poll, Trump continues to be the first choice of 39 per cent of likely GOP primary voters in the first-in-the-nation primary state.

“That lags a bit behind his performance nationally, where Republican primary polling routinely finds Trump with majority support,” the news channel reported.

Surprising is the continued sliding down of DeSantis. He has fallen behind two Indian-American candidates — entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley. While Ramaswamy’s popularity continues to rise, Haley is fast catching up.

Ramaswamy now is next to Trump with 13 per cent support, closely followed by Haley at 12 per cent and former New Jersey governor Chris Christie at 11 per cent, CNN reported.

“DeSantis’ decline stems from a sharp drop-off among moderates, from 26 per cent backing him in July to 6 per cent now. He fell a smaller 8 points among conservatives,” the opinion poll said.

According to the CNN poll, Ramaswamy’s increase is concentrated more among those who are not registered Republicans (up 16 points since July with that group while holding relatively steady among registered Republicans) and among younger likely voters (he’s up 28 points among those younger than 35 and 11 points among those in the 35-49 age group while holding about even among those aged 50 or above).

Haley’s increase is a bit larger among those with more formal education (up 11 points among those who have completed some postgraduate work and 15 points among other college graduates) and among moderates (she gained 18 points with the group) while her support among conservatives is roughly even with July, the poll showed.

The Trump campaign cheered the poll results saying that “Ron DeSantis has plummeted to the fifth place in the Granite State”.

Whale capsizes boat off New Hampshire, expert says encounter not uncommon

BOSTON – The heart-stopping video lasted all of seven seconds — a boat capsized by a whale off the New Hampshire coast Tuesday sending two fishermen flying into the ocean.

But expert Linnea Mayfield says an encounter like this isn’t uncommon. “At least in the New England area, we’ve seen it at least once a year for the past several years,” she said.

Mayfield is a Marine Naturalist at Boston Harbor City Cruises helping the New England Aquarium understand the whales off our coast.

“It does look like a very actively feeding whale,” she said.

The whale was looking for a big gulp of fish by blowing bubbles to the water’s surface. “They’ll drive those to the surface and then they’ll lunge through that school of fish and gather a whole bunch of them in their mouth,” Mayfield said.

“Definitely not intentional”

She also said the whale landing on the boat was an accident and that their “blind spot” could be to blame.

“There is a blind spot on whales,” she said. “Their eyes are actually located near the corners of their mouth on either side of their head. So right below where that chin area is, they maybe just totally missed that the boat was as close as it was. This was definitely not intentional.”

Mayfield said this is a teaching moment for boaters. If you see a whale nearby, maneuver the boat at least 100 feet behind it and slowly move away from the area.

“These animals are very aware and they are vulnerable to human activity,” she said. “This is not a positive experience interaction for the boaters, it’s not a positive interaction for the whale.”

Authorities search N.H. property in connection with Lynn woman’s 2013 disappearance – The Boston Globe

Authorities on Wednesday searched a property in Barrington, N.H., in connection with the 2013 disappearance of a Massachusetts woman, officials said.

Leeanne Redden was 37 when she was last seen in Lynn on April 15, 2013, according to a State Police missing persons poster.

State Police in New Hampshire searched the private property on Small Road at the request of the Lynn Police Department and State Police detectives assigned to the Essex District Attorney’s office, a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said. The side street runs along the shore of Ayers Pond off Route 202 in Barrington, which is about 18 miles northwest of Portsmouth.

A spokesperson for State Police in New Hampshire said the search had concluded.

It was not clear what led authorities to the location or whether the search turned up any evidence. The district attorney’s office declined further comment.

“We recognize the losses suffered by families with missing loved ones and want them to know that they are not forgotten,” Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker said in a statement. “Our office remains committed to reexamining old cases and acting on any new leads.”

Man wanted for murder of a child in Washington arrested in New Hampshire, police say

Police in Bow, New Hampshire arrested a man wanted in Washington state for the murder of a 7-year-old girl on Wednesday.

22-year-old Demiko Fox of Kirkland, Washington, was a “fugitive from justice,” Bow Police said in a statement. He faces charges of second degree murder.

Police in Kirkland, Washington began searching for Fox April 11 after the 7-year-old in his care was brought to a local hospital with “no pulse and signs of abuse,” the department said in a statement. She suffered from an acute traumatic brain injury and died from her injuries April 18, police said.

Bow police said they arrested Fox early Wednesday morning “without incident.” The department worked alongside Kirkland police and the U.S. Marshals Service.

“We grieve with the family and the community in this heartbreaking case of a little girl whose life was taken. I commend the efforts of our Investigations Unit and thank our partner agencies Bow Police Department, New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service in making this arrest,” said Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris. “For those who suspect child neglect or abuse, we urge you to report it to the police or child protective services in your area.”

Fox is being held at the Merrimack County Department of Corrections without bail until he can be extradited to Washington state, police said.
