The mother of incoming Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate has died in a drive-by shooting in Chicago over this past weekend, according to multiple reports.
Ashely Griggs, 40, was fatally shot at around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the Garfield Park neighborhood of the Windy City’s West Side, per local law enforcement.
She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she died of her wounds and was later identified as Tate’s mother.
Four other people, a woman and three men aged 32 to 42, also sustained injuries in the shooting although they are believed to be in non-life threatening condition.
The Chicago Police Department released information from one of the injured victims claiming the shooter was ‘traveling in a vehicle’ at the time of the incident.
