Nebraska senators debate switching to year-round daylight savings time

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Some senators are looking to make daylight savings time more permanent in Nebraska.

Lawmakers debated on the floor of the Unicameral on Thursday over making the permanent switch.

Legislative Bill 143 was introduced by Senator Danielle Conrad, and if passed, several changes would still need to happen outside of Nebraska before it could be implemented.

“So there’s really two contingencies in the approach that LB 143 utilizes; action in three adjacent states, two have already acted, we’d need one more to go and movement on the federal level,” Sen. Conrad said.

Wyoming and Colorado are already taking action, but one more bordering state such as Iowa, Kansas, Missouri or South Dakota would need to get on board to see movement on the federal level.

Nebraska baseball sweeps Saturday doubleheader over Penn State

Nebraska baseball (25-6, 10-1) faced off against Penn State (8-20, 3-8) in a Saturday doubleheader. The Huskers swept the Nittany Lions, winning 8-7 and 13-1.

Nebraska opened the day with a fierce comeback win, erasing a four-run deficit to take an 8-7 victory. Penn State took a 5-1 lead in the third, earning four runs in one inning. The Huskers stormed back, eventually going up 8-7 in the seventh. Nebraska then held off the Nittany Lions for the final two innings to win.

Rhett Stokes batted 3-for-3 in the win, earning one RBI and a double. Mac Moyer picked up three RBIs despite going 1-for-3, hitting a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly. Jett Buck blasted a solo home run for his only hit of the game. Drew Grego finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Tucker Timmerman (2-0) earned the win on the mound after taking over in the fourth. He pitched four shutout innings, delivering two strikeouts against one hit and a walk. J’Shawn Unger earned his fifth save of the season after closing out the final two innings. He went six-up, six-down to give Nebraska the win.

The Huskers carried their momentum into the second game, scoring five runs in the first before winning 13-1 in seven. Buck struck a grand slam in the opening inning and finished the game 2-for-4 with six RBIs. Preston Freeman picked up a two-RBI double in his lone at-bat. Will Jesske hit 2-for-2 with an RBI. Trey Fikes batted 2-for-3 with an RBI. Dylan Carey finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Grego earned one RBI after going 1-for-3.

Carson Jasa (6-1) pitched a career game, striking out a career-high 11 batters in a complete game. He allowed one run on four hits.

Nebraska and Penn State conclude the series tomorrow afternoon. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.

Missing 8-year-old girl found safe in Nebraska following Amber Alert in Wisconsin

One person was taken into custody in Nebraska, and a woman is being interviewed in connection to an Amber Alert case out of Wisconsin.According to WISN, Wautoma police said an eight-year-old girl went missing on Friday.She was believed to be with Joseph Nicpon, 44, and Betty Lenz, 34, and had been last seen on Interstate 90 near Sparta.An Amber Alert was then issued, stating she may be in danger after she went missing from Wautoma.The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Milwaukee announced it was supporting law enforcement in response to the Amber Alert in an effort to find the girl. According to Nebraska State Patrol, troopers received information about the vehicle associated with the Amber Alert. Troopers located the vehicle on Interstate 80 west of Gretna. NSP said the vehicle exited at the Greenwood interchange before turning onto Highway 63.Troopers said they had found the girl safe, and Nicpon was taken into custody. Police also said Lenz was taken in for questioning.
