CB Stephon Gilmore signs with Minnesota Vikings

EAGAN, Minn. — He does turn 34 years old next month, but the Vikings’ signing of Stephon Gilmore might be their biggest defensive free agent inking in recent memory.

Gilmore arrived fresh for his first practice in purple on Monday.

“I feel pretty good right now,” he said. “Just trying to keep getting better every day. That’s the main thing.”

Gilmore spent the 2023 season playing for the Dallas Cowboys, recording a career-high 68 tackles. He has been weighing his options. Gilmore had multiple teams apply for his services during this preseason. The Vikings’ bid was most appealing.

“I know it was competitive,” said Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell. “A lot of teams may be checking in on him and figuring out if they could potentially add him to their team. We wanted to make sure he knew what this opportunity would be. Not only on the field, but I think he’s got an unbelievable opportunity to impact our team.”

Gilmore says he picked the Vikings because of how they treat their players.

“From the training room to the weight room. All of that is top-notch. So that’s one of the reasons I picked here,” he said.

Gilmore reunites with defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who he worked with in New England in 2019 when Gilmore earned the Defensive Player of the Year award.

“Offenses are really scared to go against his defense,” said Gilmore. “So I know his disguise is pretty good. Always had a good defense no matter where he went. I’m just trying to be part of that.”

It’s unlikely Gilmore will play in the final preseason game, but he’s been around — and one of the best around for over a decade. The Vikings hope a Hall of Fame career isn’t over yet.

“Anytime I step between those lines I try to go hard,” said Gilmore. “Just to show people I still got it. Just keep proving it. Every year you gotta put the previous year behind you and prove it every year.”

O Brother, Where Art Plow? and the rest of Minnesota’s Name a Snowplow winners this year

The winners of this year’s Name a Snowplow contest pay homage to beloved Minnesota filmmakers, legends of rock and pop music and more.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation unveiled the eight winners on Tuesday:

Minne-Snow-ta – District 1 (Northeast Minnesota)
Sled Zeppelin – District 2 (Northwest Minnesota)
Oh, For Sleet’s Sake – District 3 (Central Minnesota)
O Brother, Where Art Plow? – District 4 (West Central Minnesota)
The Life of a Snowgirl – Metro (Twin Cities)
Flurrious George – District 6 (Southeast Minnesota)
Every Day I’m Shovelin’ – District 7 (South Central Minnesota)
K Pop Blizzard Hunter – District 8 (Southwest Minnesota)

MnDOT said there were more than 6,700 names submitted to this year’s contest. Earlier this month, the department whittled the list down to 30 finalists. Nearly 19,000 people voted on the winners, the department said.

“Let’s remember it’s not just the plows, it’s also about the more than 1,600 Minnesota snowplow operators who keep us safe, and our roads cleared all winter long,” MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger said. “Please slow down and give the operators of Sled Zepplin, The Life of a Snowgirl and all of Minnesota’s other snowplows plenty of space to clear roads safely every time it snows.”

This was the contest’s sixth year.

MnDOT has about 800 snowplows across the state.

Families Flock To Fair Hills Resort For Summer Fun In The Heart Of Minnesota

If you are looking at making summer plans this year, you might want to act quickly if staying at one of the best resorts in the USA is on your list. Travel and Leisure put out its top-15 all-inclusive resorts in America, and one Minnesota resort made the list, and thankfully, it’s just about two hours from Saint Cloud.

Top All-Inclusive Resort In America Is…

Unfortunately, the top-ranked all-inclusive resort according to Travel and Leisure is in Georgia, NOT Minnesota. Still, if you are into traveling, it might be worth the trip if you can get a room!

Here’s what Travel and Leisure had to say about Georgia’s The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island.

“The property is located within an 11,000-acre sanctuary full of roaming wildlife, including more than 250 species of birds. Rates include meals, non-alcoholic beverages, naturalist-guided excursions, boat transfers to and from the island, and unlimited access to island activities and recreation gear.”

Minnesota’s Top All-Inclusive Resort Is…

The list put out on Instagram by Travel and Leisure shows Minnesota’s lone entrant into the top all-inclusive resorts coming in at number 11, which is down 5 spots from its 2023 list. The resort is located in Detroit Lakes and is called Fair Hills Resort.

Here’s what Travel and Leisure had to say about the 100+ year old resort:
“This affordable old-fashioned summer camp, built in 1906 on Minnesota’s Pelican Lake, earns rave reviews from families who return year after year, generation after generation. The no-frills resort is decidedly unpretentious — and that’s exactly what devotees love about it. Guests stay in rustic lake cabins and come together for a wide array of activities, from fishing and scavenger hunts to swimming, tennis, and golf.”
Fair Hills is owned and operated by the Kaldahl family and has been since the family took possession of the property in 1926. Like Travel and Leisure states, the resort is pretty no-frills, but that’s how it should be in Central Minnesota.

The all-inclusive packages run for just 9 weeks during the summer, starting on Father’s Day weekend and running through mid-August.

This weekend was a great one to get out and do something fun. I wanted to destress, so I drove over to Clemens Gardens for a nice stroll through the gardens. What a beautiful place it is. There are flowers everywhere, as well as fountains and statues.
