The Kansas Jayhawks handed the primary big take a look at of the season, defeating the Duke Blue Devils in a Champions Basic thriller because of an exceptional efficiency from Jalen Wilson.

Up subsequent is a mid-tier Southern Utah Thunderbirds staff that ought to give the Jayhawks cool-down/warm-up to get them to their vacation match subsequent week. However will the dreaded “let-down” sport sneak up on the Jayhawks? Will any type of exhaustion creep in and trigger the Jayhawks to underperform tonight?

Take a look at our Southern Utah Preview for Kyle’s full breakdown and prediction.

Brendan Dzwierzynski

Southern Utah is the second-highest ranked staff in KenPom amongst KU’s first 4 opponents this season, with the Thunderbirds checking in at a whopping No. 162 as of the center of the week. To be blunt, if Kansas performs something prefer it did on the Champions Basic this must be a cakewalk for the Jayhawks. Southern Utah doesn’t have a ton of dimension and I’m undecided what they’ll do to decelerate the brand new, hyper-aggressive Jalen Wilson or the moment offense of Gradey Dick. KU ought to be capable of cap off the “Norm Roberts period” with a sound, pretty straightforward victory.

Kansas 88, Southern Utah 61.

The Kansas Jayhawks are coming off of an amazing basketball sport in opposition to one other blue blood, the Duke Blue Devils. The morale must be working excessive with the Jayhawks who had been thought of the underdog by most sports activities books. KU confirmed that skillsets and management can overcome dimension. Now the Jayhawks will return to Lawrence, Kansas to tackle Southern Utah. My expectations are for Jalen Wilson and Gradey Dick to proceed with their scorching arms, however I would really like a few of the different gamers to log minutes. The primary participant I wish to see is Bobby Pettiford. Pettiford has been a brilliant spot when on the ground and his progress has been seen. The following participant is that if wholesome, MJ Rice. Rice appeared good in his lone sport this season and I search for him to construct on that, once more if wholesome. I count on the Jayhawks to stroll away simply with a victory. Kansas 89, Southern Utah 58

Duke and Southern Utah are comparable in that they’re each school basketball groups. Kansas took a intestine punch in opposition to the Dookies and sport out victorious, so I’ve no purpose to consider that this group of Self-less gamers received’t get it achieved in Allen. Let’s begin a Jayhawk centric weekend off with a basketball blowout to get prepped for the victory in opposition to Texas on Saturday.

Kansas 90, Southern Utah 65.

That is the sport the place we discover out simply how a lot consideration this staff pays to each sport forward of them and the way a lot they’re vulnerable to look forward. With the Battle 4 Atlantis arising subsequent week and having simply come off of an enormous win over Duke, it is perhaps cheap to assume that they may take this sport a bit frivolously. Particularly once you add in that the bench is perhaps a bit skinny tonight with precautionary damage benchings.

However Invoice Self comes again subsequent week after being sidelined for the primary 4 video games of the season. I do not assume that these guys need the primary phrases out of his mouth to be the dreaded “gentle” name-calling. It is a staff that they need to dominate, even shorthanded. The large guys must get it going on this one to assist work out what that rotation goes to seem like going ahead.

Kansas 91, Southern Utah 59.
