UAW Strike Widens for GM and Stellantis
United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain called for workers at General Motors and Stellantis distribution facilities to join the strike against the Big Three Automakers in a Facebook Live address today. The strike will not widen at Ford facilities at this time, the UAW says, citing progress in negotiations with the company.
The move comes just a week after the UAW announced a walk-out at GM’s Wentzville Assembly in Missouri, Stellantis’s Toledo Assembly in Ohio and Ford’s Michigan Assembly in Wayne, Mich. The focus on GM and Stellantis distribution facilities underscores UAW’s “Stand Up Strike” method, in which select local union chapters are poised to walk out of their plants as called on for “maximum leverage.”
According to Fain, significant progress has been made in negotiations with Ford, including:
- Rawsonville Components and Sterling Axle employees will now be on the same wage scale as assembly workers.
- Reinstated cost of living allowance (COLA).
- Right to strike over plant closures.
- In the event of an indefinite layoff, income security for up to two years with health care. Applies to all employees with 90 days of service, including temporary workers.
- Enhanced profit-sharing formula that would have resulted in a 13.3% increase for the average employee in payouts last year. Profit sharing extended to temporary employees with at least 90-days employment.
- Immediate conversion of all temporary employees with at least 90-days employment ratification.
“All that represents serious movement on tiers, on cost of living, on pay and on job security, but to be clear, we’re not done at Ford. We still have serious issues to work through. But we do want to recognize that Ford is showing that they’re serious about reaching a deal,” Fain says.
Similar to Ford, General Motors Components Holdings and Customer Care and Aftersales workers will now be on the same wage scale as assembly workers, according to the UAW. But the union has not made significant progress in other areas, such as COLA, with GM.
All 38 parts distribution facilities at GM and Stellantis were called to strike at noon today. The list includes:

On Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians had another former player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame with the election of former longtime ace CC Sabathia.
The Guardians have had an abundance of talented players over the years, some of whom will also be newly eligible for the Hall of Fame next year.
With this in mind, here are three notable former Cleveland players who will be first-year eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot in 2026.
Primarily a right fielder, Choo spent parts of seven seasons with Cleveland. He was acquired during the 2006 season from the Seattle Mariners in the Ben Broussard trade.
During his 685 regular-season games with Cleveland, which lasted through the 2012 campaign, Choo batted .292 with 736 hits, 162 doubles, 83 home runs, 372 RBI, 85 stolen bases, and an .852 OPS.
The South Korea native eventually earned his lone All-Star selection with the Texas Rangers in 2018. Overall, he batted .275 with 1,671 hits, 339 doubles, 218 home runs, 782 RBI, 157 stolen bases, and an .824 OPS in 16 seasons across four different teams.
Mainly a designated hitter, Encarnación spent two of his 16 seasons with Cleveland in 2017 and 2018. He was signed as a free agent during the 2016 offseason.
While his time with the team was short, he was a very productive bat in Cleveland’s lineup. He batted a combined .252 with 266 hits, 70 home runs, 214 RBI, and an .848 OPS in 294 regular-season games. The Dominican Republic native also helped guide Cleveland to a pair of playoff appearances.
Prior to his time with Cleveland, Encarnación was a three-time All-Star for the Toronto Blue Jays. Overall, he batted .260 with 1,832 hits, 424 home runs, 1,261 RBI, and an .846 OPS across six different teams.
After making his MLB debut with Cleveland, in 2011, Kipnis was the team’s starting second baseman for the next eight seasons. He was selected by Cleveland in the second round of the 2009 MLB Draft.
During his time with the team, the left-handed hitter was a two-time All-Star and helped lead Cleveland to the 2016 World Series. He batted .261 with 1,120 hits, 252 doubles, 123 home runs, 529 RBI, 135 stolen bases, and a .750 OPS in 1,121 regular-season games with the club.
Kipnis finally concluded his MLB career after playing 44 more regular-season games with the Chicago Cubs during the 2020 campaign.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A man wanted for the 2022 murder of a Cleveland teenager is now behind bars after trespassing at a local deli with a loaded gun, according to investigators.
Agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit arrested 20-year-old Marcus McCargo and another man last Thursday outside of the E. 81st Deli in Cleveland.
According to OIU, McCargo was carrying firearm equipped with a machine gun conversion device, known as a “Glock switch,” and a loaded extended magazine.
When agents attempted to stop the men from driving away, OIU said McCargo “tried to elude capture by rapidly accelerating in reverse, then forward, into an agent’s police vehicle.”
At the time of his arrest, McCargo was a fugitive who had been wanted since August 2023 following his indictment for the murder of 18-year-old Samell Watt.
According to Cleveland Police, Watt was fatally shot on June 1, 2022 while walking down Anson Avenue in the city’s Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood.
McCargo was indicted on multiple charges, including aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault.
He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday morning and is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.
Four other men charged in connection with the 18-year-old’s murder are currently in prison.
Court records show Sherman Worley Jr., Shermar Worley, William Worley III and Izayaih McCoy were recently sentenced after pleading guilty to reduced charges.
In addition the murder case, McCargo also faces felony gun charges and other offenses in connection with his recent arrest by OIU agents.
OIU has not released the name of the armed man arrested at the deli with McCargo as they have not yet been officially charged.
