A look about the lodge for unusual suspects: Moreland Hills blotter

MORELAND HILLS, Ohio

Disturbance: Miles Road

A caller reported that across the street from her home, coming from the Look About Lodge, she heard a man and a woman screaming around 11:30 p.m. June 22.

Responding officers found no people or cars at the lodge. They notified Cleveland Metroparks police of the incident, then checked Miles Road up to Ohio 91, along with Park Lane and Glen Road.

Around 12:40 a.m. June 23, police talked to two men in a nearby Bentleyville parking lot who said they had heard two people yelling what sounded like “Oh-ee-oh-ee-oh” at around 11:15 p.m., possibly from inside the park.

Police then remained in the caller’s driveway, but heard nothing further.

Suspicion: Chagrin River Road

A caller at Jackson Field reported June 25 finding a green plastic box — similar to a tackle box — with numbers on it wedged into a tree trunk while she was walking along the riverbank.

She took a picture and wanted to show police to see if there was any cause for concern.

Police located the box within 25 minutes and determined that it was used for “geocaching or geostashing,” described as a “global treasure hunt,” with no threats detected.

Family trouble: Chagrin Boulevard

A girl, 16, who said her grandparents are her guardians, reported just after midnight June 22 that she had left the house earlier to hang out with friends but did not clean her room first.

Now that she had returned, her grandparents were not letting her in. She added that she saw her grandfather inside the home, so she knew they were still awake.

She was waiting outside when police arrived to intervene, reporting around 12:32 a.m. that the situation now “checked OK.”

Animal bites: Bentleyville Road

A man reported at 5:14 p.m. June 22 that he was on his way from the Chagrin Falls Police Department to the Moreland Hills police station after being bitten by a dog around 12:30 p.m. during an unspecified delivery.

Follow-up investigation: Canyon Drive

Police spoke with a resident and mother on the afternoon of June 21 concerning an earlier fraud report. Officers determined that no fraud took place and that the resident was receiving scam phone calls.

The family was advised on how to handle those in the future.

Broadcast, attempt-to-locate: SOM Center Road, U.S. 422

Moreland Hills was one of the neighboring departments receiving a bulletin from Solon police at 2:45 a.m. June 25 to be on the lookout for a black 2015 Nissan Altima after one of their officers was briefly dragged during a freeway traffic stop.

The suspect has since turned himself in.

Tree down: Miles Road

A caller reported a dead tree sticking out into the westbound lane east of SOM Center Road and hanging about 6 to 8 feet from the ground at 4:43 p.m. June 25.

At 4:53 p.m., dispatchers learned that “the large tree was removed with superhuman strength.”
