Wyoming Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash in Albany County

A Wyoming man is dead after crashing his motorcycle in Albany County, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

The crash happened around 9:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, near mile marker 33 on Wyoming 230, about six miles southwest of Woods Landing.

According to a fatality crash summary, 41-year-old Paul Washburn was riding east when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, went off the right side of the highway, and was thrown from his bike.

Washburn was wearing a helmet but died from his injuries.

The summary says it was clear and the highway was dry at the time of the crash, but it does not list any possible contributing factors.

Calls to the patrol seeking more information were not immediately returned.

Washburn is the 90th person and the eighth motorcyclist to die on Wyoming’s highways so far this year.

2022’s Deadliest Wyoming County by Traffic Deaths

While car crashes can occur anywhere, some roads in Wyoming are more dangerous than others.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol data, there were 117 fatal crashes in the Cowboy State in 2022 resulting in 133 deaths.

Of those fatal crashes, the majority (13.68%) occurred in Laramie County — two in January, one in February, one in March, two in April, one in June, two in July, three in August, two in September, one in November, and one in December.

Sweetwater County saw the second most fatal crashes last year, 12, while Fremont and Lincoln counties each saw 10.

Albany and Park counties each recorded eight, and Campbell, Converse, and Natrona counties each tallied seven.

The deadliest 2022 crash in Laramie County took place on June 17 when two semis collided on Interstate 80 east of Cheyenne and immediately became engulfed in flames killing both drivers and a passenger.

Laramie County also saw two fatal crashes involving motorcyclists, two fatal crashes involving juveniles, and a fatal crash involving a pedestrian last year.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Obi Agbim had 28 points in Wyoming’s 92-55 victory against Bellarmine on Thursday night.

Agbim had five rebounds and five assists for the Cowboys (6-5). A.J. Wills scored 13 points while shooting 5 for 7, including 3 for 5 from beyond the arc and added seven assists. Matija Belic finished 6 of 9 from the field to finish with 12 points.

The Knights (3-9) were led by Kenyon Goodin, who posted 13 points.

Agbim led his team in scoring with 13 points in the first half to help put them up 52-28 at the break. Wyoming extended its lead to 71-36 during the second half, fueled by a 10-0 scoring run. Agbim scored a team-high 15 points in the second half.

Wisconsin football transfer safety commits to Wyoming

Wisconsin redshirt freshman safety Justin Taylor announced his transfer commitment to Wyoming on Wednesday.

Taylor entered the portal earlier this month after two years with the Badgers. He joins the Cowboys with three years of eligibility remaining.

Taylor initially joined Wisconsin as a three-star recruit in the class of 2023, ranked as the No. 936 player in the class, No. 73 athlete and No. 18 recruit from his home state of Illinois. He committed to the program on May 14, 2022, back when Paul Chryst was still the head coach and Jim Leonhard ran the defense. He stuck with that commitment through the program’s coaching turnover and subsequent hire of Luke Fickell.

The safety is one of numerous members of Wisconsin’s class of 2023 to depart, either this offseason or last. Only four of the program’s 15 signees from the abbreviated cycle remain with the program.

Taylor commits to a Wyoming program that went 3-9 in 2024 under first-year head coach Jay Sawvel. The program previously made six bowl games in the eight preceding seasons. It is typically a model of consistency in the Mountain West.

Wisconsin already addressed its need at safety in the transfer portal, adding Richmond breakout freshman Matthew Traynor. The program is in search of a new starter next to senior Preston Zachman, who recently announced his return for the 2025 season. The Badgers also need depth at the position with Taylor and other underclassmen in the portal.
