Raiders’ McDaniels Final Thought Before 49ers
HENDERSON, Nev.-The Las Vegas Raiders have had a busy week. They’ve moved on from Derek Carr and nonetheless have their playoff hopes on life help.
Josh McDaniels addressed the state of his crew moments in the past and regarded forward to this weekend in opposition to the San Franciso 49ers.
Beneath is all the press convention, and you’ll learn the transcript:
Head Coach Josh McDaniels
Opening Assertion: “One roster replace, Rock Ya-Sin clearly was placed on IR, so that you guys know that now. We’re in our third day right here and this crew is, as I discussed the opposite day, as most likely nearly as good prime to backside in all three phases as we have performed. There’s actually, I would say, very, only a few if any weaknesses on this crew relative to their roster. The best way they play, they do numerous issues proper, they actually do. They’re nicely coached, and like I mentioned the opposite day, I imply, the best way they’ve put this crew collectively, their depth has been challenged at occasions however clearly their depth has actually completed a very good job for them. So, a variety of years into their course of there with John [Lynch] and Kyle [Shanahan] and you’ll see the best way they need to play, it stands out and jumps out on the movie – their philosophy and the way they do issues. And you’ll inform that their guys know precisely what they need them to do. So, I am extraordinarily impressed. I’ve all the time been impressed. I feel Kyle’s clearly one of many elite coaches on this league and has been for a very long time, and as I discussed the opposite day DeMeco [Ryans] is doing an incredible job defensively. They’re one of many prime groups within the league within the kicking sport. So, prime to backside this can be a nice problem and our guys have actually poured into them. You solely get so many alternatives a 12 months to essentially sort of take care of groups like this, and never a crew that we all know very nicely, however I would say over the past three or 4 days right here we have actually gotten to know them and have a ton of respect for what they do and the way they play, and anticipating the problem on Sunday.”
Q: While you take a look at issues from an even bigger image standpoint and also you take a look at the 49ers and the way they’re constructed. Is that one thing that’s okay to take a look at and attempt to emulate?
Coach McDaniels: “Yeah, I imply, they did it their means. And I feel that anytime you tackle a chance like this, you’ve a imaginative and prescient for what you finally need it to get to. It’s extremely troublesome to get to that straight away since you’re spending numerous time educating everyone. And so, I feel that what they have been in a position to do over a variety of years is set up the kind of folks that they are on the lookout for, set up the best way they need to play in all three phases. And I feel by now, now you see the fruits of the labor on the sphere. And like I mentioned, there’s only a few occasions the place you are watching them the place it seems like they are not related completely. They acquired 11 guys on the sphere that know what’s being requested of them they usually do it very nicely. So, it is a crew. Once more, I do know that two guys have actually completed an amazing job of placing that group collectively and you’ll see their philosophy sort of play out, and naturally you need to have that chance to develop your individual program and course of and tradition to the purpose the place you possibly can see it in each part, in each play.”
Q: While you talked to the media final, you clearly made a fairly main announcement. How did you are feeling the crew sort of responded the final couple days?
Coach McDaniels: “The best way that they’ve responded to all the pieces all 12 months. They’re mature. I feel we have now a high-character group. And once more, we mentioned it the opposite day – I imply, relationships are relationships. The human aspect of that is actual. And so, you are allowed to really feel nonetheless you are feeling about folks, and I feel all of us have a job to do. I feel they’ve completed an incredible job this week of getting ready every day. Observe has been good, their vitality has been super, and their angle is nice. So, that is what I might’ve anticipated them to do, and that is what they’ve completed.”
Q: You talked to Derek Carr earlier than you got here right here. You want him, he likes you, and also you guys are respectful of one another. Is making these choices the worst half about teaching?
Coach McDaniels: “In all probability. And I feel the arduous half is that once you do it lengthy sufficient, you in the end find yourself making choices which might be actually strictly solely about soccer or efficiency, however probably not about the best way you are feeling in regards to the individual as a human being. And so, I feel as a youthful man I might sit in right here and say I most likely had a more durable time understanding that dynamic since you wrap all the pieces up into the dialog that you simply’re concerned in. However as I have been round lengthy sufficient to see folks come and go, and relationships maintain themselves past that, that is as much as the 2 folks. It truly is. And we have minimize gamers, traded gamers, launched gamers, or folks have retired, coaches have been fired. I have been fired. And you continue to have nice relationships with the folks that you simply labored for, otherwise you labored with. And once more, I feel that is a private alternative. I select to put money into the relationships with these folks and if one thing must be completed from a enterprise perspective, or anyone makes a alternative to maneuver in a unique route, it’s a must to respect that and transfer on. However it does not essentially must have an effect on your relationship.”
Q: I do know folks have mentioned, ‘Properly, Josh is aware of Stidham,’ however you have not recognized him this fashion, beginning a sport, getting ready for a sport because the starter. What have you ever seen up to now this week, and what are you interested by on Sunday?
Coach McDaniels: “I’ve seen a man actually anticipating his alternative. Clearly, he ought to be excited. That is, as he talked about the opposite day, this is a chance that does not come alongside simply. So, I am excited for him personally. I feel he is completed a very good job of dealing with observe the final two days. I feel the crew has completed an incredible job of actually working with him. And look, our job is to attempt to assist him have a productive day and do the issues that he must do on the quarterback place to assist us win. So, we’re all arduous at work at that. Jarrett [Stidham] is unquestionably arduous at work at it. I’ve no delusions of grandeur when it comes to like, ‘Properly, that is going to be excellent.’ I imply, it would not matter who you are taking part in with, in opposition to this protection it is not going to be excellent. However we’ll attempt to do the most effective we are able to every time on the market, and he is put in an amazing week’s work up to now, and I am positive we’ll have one other good day at the moment. I do know mentally he is able to go, bodily he is able to go, and possibly it’s a must to include the feelings a bit of bit for him, however that half when you get into the sport, you get hit a bit of bit, hopefully he’ll settle in and play good soccer.”
Q: Jarrett Stidham steps on the market with the league’s main rusher behind him after which the league chief in landing receptions subsequent to him. Regardless of a number of the struggles this 12 months, what sort of customary have Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams set with their performances this 12 months?
Coach McDaniels: “They have been super individually, however I additionally suppose that they might be the primary folks to inform you that clearly their successes is a product of lots of people serving to them do it proper. They clearly have earned the accolades they obtained this 12 months. I feel these are two good gamers that you really want in your crew. With a quarterback facilitating the ball to these folks, together with the opposite guys which might be on the market with them, I feel that is what we’ll attempt to get completed. I do know that these two guys are desirous to play, and that is an attention-grabbing alternative for all of us to essentially compete in opposition to a unit that I feel clearly proper now ranks as the most effective within the league. They actually are taking part in prefer it, and it is an amazing alternative, an amazing problem for everyone.”
Q: In addition to successful the sport, what is the greatest attribute that you simply need to see out of your crew shifting ahead out of this sport?
Coach McDaniels: ““I simply suppose they’ve competed all 12 months and I feel that is actually the accountability of every particular person right here, is to organize ourselves to win, put together ourselves to carry out the most effective we are able to in our job and our function. We won’t do the opposite individual’s job or function, however we’ll go on the market and compete as arduous as we are able to to win a soccer sport. And, once more, we all know there’s another elements at play relative to the general end result of the season and all that, and we won’t management these issues. So, I anticipate what they’ve given us all 12 months, which is a hell of a day’s work, they usually compete their butt off whether or not it is observe or within the sport. We’ll end our preparation right here within the subsequent 48 hours and go to the stadium Sunday able to assault the day.”
Q: San Francisco is bodily in each part of the sport. Is that one thing that you simply need to see the Raiders turn out to be?
Coach McDaniels: “Yeah, and I feel we have began to determine that in all three phases, however there is not any query this crew is a bodily soccer crew that we’re on the point of play. That is their philosophy, that is the best way they need to play, that is the best way they need to win. That is the best way they imagine in successful and taking part in. And so, they’re aggressive and bodily of their protection models. They do a very good job. Their returner is super, and clearly their defensive entrance and offensive line they’ve invested in considerably over time to stand up to the place it’s. Numerous first spherical draft picks on the defensive entrance and the identical factor on the offensive line, so it clearly stands out as their type of play. You do not have to look at lengthy earlier than you actually understand that that is what it should be.”
The Raiders return to motion subsequent Sunday on New Yr’s Day, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas versus the San Francisco 49ers. That sport kicks off at 4:05 p.m. EST/1:05 p.m. PST and might be seen on FOX.

Former San Francisco Giants Slugger Signs Deal With Chicago White Sox
When former top prospect Heliot Ramos finally emerged for the San Francisco Giants this year, their outfield became fairly crowded during the season and when looking ahead towards the future.
Despite Jung Hoo Lee being sidelined with a shoulder injury that ended his rookie campaign, the everyday addition of Ramos alongside Michael Conforto, Mike Yastrzemski, Austin Slater and a rotating cast of minor leaguers because of injuries created a logjam.
Because of that, the Giants decided to ship Slater out to the Cincinnati Reds on July 7 in exchange for pitcher Alex Young.
That ended his eight-and-a-half-year tenure in San Francisco after he was taken in the eighth round of the 2014 MLB draft before becoming a top prospect ahead of his Major League debut in 2017.
But despite a few good seasons during his time with the Giants, namely in 2020 with a 151 OPS+ and in 2022 with a 121 OPS+ across his 125 games, they viewed him as expendable and shipped him out of town.
Slater’s tenure with the Reds was short, only playing in eight games before they sent him to the Baltimore Orioles ahead of the trade deadline.
Upon the season ending, the veteran outfielder elected to hit free agency, and according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, he has now signed a Major League deal with the Chicago White Sox, although the terms have not been revealed.
The White Sox are coming off a historically poor campaign last year, so with them looking to turn the corner by getting established MLB talent into the mix, there’s a chance Slater gets a good amount of playing time.
