The highest 5 is similar for the fourth straight recreation (since Soto, Drury and Josh Bell had been acquired in trades).

The one variations within the high six the previous 4 video games had been when Jake Cronenworth didn’t begin Thursday and that the left-handed hitting Soto switched spots with Manny Machado in opposition to a lefty.

Andrew Heaney is the primary of what’s anticipated to be three consecutive left-handed starters the Padres will face. Tyler Anderson will begin Sunday’s collection finale right here, and Alex Wooden is in line to begin for the Giants on Monday at Petco Park.

San Diego Unified students create public service announcements about social media harms

The San Diego Unified School Board announced the winners of its social media awareness contest at Mira Mesa High School on Friday.

The contest is part of the school district’s response to U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy’s call for a warning label on social media platforms.

This summer Murthy wrote in an op-ed, the warning should say,Social media is associated with significant mental health harms for adolescents.”

Mira Mesa High School 11th-grader Kylie Brite created one of the seven winning public service announcements.

“My PSA, I tried to make something simple to get the message across better. It says, ‘Be nice. Think twice. Remember to engage responsibly on social media,’” Brite said. “Because I think it’s important that, even though it may not seem like it, what you say online can impact people a lot.”

Brite also said she thinks some students may feel like they’re not seen by the adults in their life.

“Like they don’t feel like adults realize the problems we’re facing with social media,” she said. “But this, I think, will make students feel seen.”

The district said 40 students submitted video and print public service announcements.

“We see things like anxiety, depression, cyberbullying happening through some of these social media platforms. And we know it’s interfering with students’ academic achievement, but more importantly really getting in the way of their wellness,” San Diego Unified School Board President Shana Hazen said.

She said kids understand what kids are going through.

“They understand the messages that are going to resonate and so it’s really exciting to see them stepping up and sharing this information in beautiful and impactful ways with students all across our district,” Hazan said.

The district says the winning PSAs will be featured on social media, the district’s weekly newsletter and website.

Two small brush fires were sparked Friday afternoon in North County

A fire was sparked in the area of Bonsall after noon in the 3800 block of Lake Garden Drive. The so-called Garden Fire has burned one acre so far and has a moderate rate of spread.

The San Diego County Office of Emergency Services said that evacuations have been ordered north of state Route 76 east of Grid Road and almost all the way over to Interstate 15. “An Evacuation Order requires immediate movement out of the affected area due to an imminent threat to life,” according to the OES.

A large plume of dark smoke is dwarfing the surrounding neighborhood. At least one structure has been damaged by flames.

Aerial assets are involved fighting the blaze, making retardant drops, as are ground crews.

A second brush fire in San Pasqual Valley was ignited on Friday afternoon, burning not far from residential neighborhoods. That fire began near the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in the 14800 block of San Pasqual Valley Road. Officials said the fire has the potential to burn 10 acres but was holding at 1-2 acres.

NBC 7 is sending SkyRanger 7 to cover the fire and should have live coverage soon.

Best College Football Prop Bets for New Mexico vs. San Diego State in Week 11

Best College Football Prop Bets for New Mexico vs. San Diego State in Week 11

If you’re staying up late for Friday night college football action, there is a gold mine of player prop opportunities in New Mexico vs. San Diego State.

Under first year head coaches, both New Mexico and San Diego State have trotted out high octane offenses with lackluster defenses, which has made for entertaining affairs all season long. In this Week 11 Mountain West showdown, I’m looking at three key contributors to clear their respective player props.

Get ready for Week 11 action here!

Eli Sanders OVER 57.5 Rushing Yards

Sanders is fresh off his best game of the season, rushing for 205 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns.

While that was the first time that he cleared 100 yards on the season, he has been a steady force in this Lobos offense, rushing for at least 70 yards in five of the other eight games.

The Lobos have an advantageous matchup against the San Diego State defense that has been pushed around all season defending the rush, ranking 124th in defensive line yards and 106th in EPA/Rush.

Sanders is the No. 1 option in a high-octane offense that has plenty of creative ways to get him the ball, back him to go over this mark in a game with a total in the high 60’s.

Devon Dampier OVER 64.5 Rushing Yards

Sanders is a good bet to go over his rushing yard total, but it’s Dampier who is the Lobos’ leading rusher this season.

The sophomore has been dynamic in Bronco Mendenhall’s offense, rushing the ball five or more times in every game since the opener, and has rushed the ball at least 11 times in the last four games. Dampier has rushed for 50 or more yards in all but two games, so he has a steady floor, and an average of 82.7 yards.

While the concern is that San Diego State is top 10 in the country in sacks, the volume of plays should offset that and give Dampier plenty of bites at getting over this total given that both teams are top 50 in seconds per play.

Danny O’Neil OVER 223.5 Passing Yards

New Mexico’s defense is among the worst in the nation, bottom 10 in almost any metric you will look at.

Meanwhile, the freshman quarterback O’Neil has started to come into his own for the Aztecs in Sean Lewis’ fast-paced offense. He has gone under this total in two straight, but given the up-tempo nature of this game, I expect O’Neil to settle in nicely.

He has shown the ability to clear this mark with 254 passing yards against Wyoming and 246 against Central Michigan, two defenses in the same realm as this Lobos’ patchwork pass defense.

With a game in the 60’s, I expect O’Neil to get his and clear this total.
