Colorado Republicans have voted to remove GOP Party Chair Dave Williams by a vote of 161.66 to 12 on Saturday.

More than 100 Republican leaders across Colorado had previously signed a petition aimed at removing their state party chairman from his position.

Republican state Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer tweeted “We will be getting a new chair of the State GOP!” after the vote.

The move comes after Williams sent an email attacking gay pride month and referring to the LGBTQ community as “godless groomers,” He also called for the burning of all pride flags on social media.

It isn’t the first time Williams, a state representative whose district includes El Paso County, has come under fire but, for many Republicans, it was the last straw.

Since he took over as GOP chair, Williams has attacked Republicans who don’t meet his purity test, waded into GOP primaries in violation of party bylaws and used state party resources to support his own campaign for Congress.

Williams says those who sign the petition are “weak establishment Republicans” who are “waging civil war.” He says he won’t apologize even if it means losing his position.

He lost his primary bid for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District against Jeff Crank in June.

“Instead of focusing on what unites us, under the leadership of Dave Williams the message from the State GOP has been one of division fueled by hateful narratives,” Kirkmeyer said in June. “It is past time to part ways with Dave Williams. His tactics are undermining our ability to lift up Colorado.”

Williams did not respond to a request for comment Saturday, nor did the Colorado GOP.

Rockies at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 6, Rockies 2

Moneyline

PASS.

No doubt in my mind that the Yankees (-300) will take this series on Sunday, but definitely not taking those odds. I’ll take my wager to the run line.

Run line/Against the spread

BET YANKEE -2.5 (+110).

The Yankees are 35-29 in the Bronx and 28-16 during day games this season. New York is also 4-1 ATS in their last 5. It’s also very encouraging that Stroman has allowed just 1 ER in his last 11 innings (2 starts). Hard to bet against the team that’s got Judge and his 49 HRs.

Based on record, the Rockies are the 3rd-worst team in the MLB. They are 19-49 away from Coors Field this season.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-105).

My initial instinct was to take the Over but the trends told me to take the Under. The Under has hit in Gomber’s last 4 starts. In their last 5 meetings the Rockies-Yankees are 3-2 against the Under. The Under has hit in 4 of the Rockies last 6 and 2 of the Yankees last 3.

CU Buffs’ Shyra James becomes program’s career goal-scoring leader | Colorado Sunshine

Where good news shines

Shyra James scored three goals Thursday in a 5-1 win over Wyoming at Prentup Field to become Colorado’s all-time leading goal scorer.

James came in as a sub in the second half and put in three goals in a span of 10 minutes, 24 seconds, to surpass Nikki Marshall’s previous record of 42 career goals. James’ hat trick was the seventh all-time by a Buff and the first for Colorado since Tatum Barton scored three goals against Missouri in 2018.

Marshall, who was in attendance Thursday night, scored 42 goals from 2006-09. The Hall of Fame Buff was also a volunteer assistant coach for the Buffs in James’ junior season.

The Buffs return to action Sunday, hosting Michigan at noon on ESPN+.
