Arizona is among seven battleground states where polls show former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in a dead heat.

And while many locals listed the economy and immigration as their top concerns when deciding which box to tick, others told Fox News Digital last week that democracy itself is on the line.

“The biggest thing is the orange man,” Mary said in Phoenix, referring to a disparaging nickname for Trump. “We can’t tolerate him anymore. He is a doctor of chaos, and it’s ruining our country. Trump needs to go.”

INFLATION RISES 2.4% IN SEPTEMBER, ABOVE EXPECTATIONS

In Tempe, Bob shared a similar sentiment, telling Fox News Digital that “democracy is the most important” issue on the ballot this year.

Other voters disagreed, saying they’d like a return to a Trump-era economy. Trump is trying to return Arizona to the GOP column after losing it narrowly to Joe Biden in 2020. It was the first time since 1996 that a Democrat had won the state.

“The last time he was in, I thought the economy was a lot better,” Michael said of the former president. “Gas prices were lower. I just think overall it was cheaper.”

He added that the economy is his top concern because it “affects your daily living.”

“Rent, food, gas,” Greg said. “Prices are going crazy ever since Biden took office.”

Inflation is “everyone’s main problem,” Tea told Fox News Digital in Tempe. “I’m at the grocery store every day because I’m pinching, trying to figure out like, ‘Hey, do I need this? Can I buy this? Can I afford this?’ Because everything’s just skyrocketing.”

The economy, immigration and abortion were the most important issues to voters in a nationwide Fox News Poll conducted last month. Voters preferred Trump on immigration and the economy, while Harris dominated on the issue of abortion, the poll found.

But Bob blamed food companies and corporate “b—-rds,” who he said have raised prices beyond inflation. He didn’t hesitate when asked which presidential candidate would be better for the economy.

“Kamala, Kamala, Kamala!” he said. “The rich have been riding a wave of tax cuts and not responsibility, and the Supreme Court’s been taking away the rights of the government agencies that regulate things. So we need to get that back in line and Kamala is going to do that instead of putting more Federalist judges up there.”

Brian said immigration is his top concern because the effects trickle down to “almost every issue,” including the economy.

“I think [the economy] is on a precarious level where things could go quite poorly in the next four years, depending on whether more money is spent on things like external wars,” he said.

Santa Monica College employee dies after being shot by coworker on campus

The Santa Monica College employee who was shot by a coworker on campus has died from her injuries Wednesday night.

She was identified as Felicia Hudson, 54, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Hudson was a long-time employee of the school and worked as a custodial operations manager. She was originally from Newman, Georgia.

Felicia Hudson, 54, is seen in a photo provided by Santa Monica College.

On Oct. 14, Hudson was working at the college’s Center for Media and Design satellite campus when at around 9:15 p.m., she was shot by another employee.

The gunman, Davon Durell Dean, 29, fled the campus after the shooting, leaving Hudson in critical condition. She was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries and later died on Wednesday night.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic loss of our colleague Felicia Hudson, who served the college for nearly three decades with dedication and heart,” said Santa Monica College President Dr. Kathryn E. Jeffery. “She took great pride in being a steadfast coworker and leader.”

On Tuesday afternoon, the suspect’s vehicle was spotted by police in El Segundo. Following a short pursuit, he was eventually boxed in and surrounded by SWAT vehicles.

Despite attempts by negotiators for a peaceful surrender, he eventually shot and killed himself inside his car, police said.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but investigators believe Hudson was targeted in a case of workplace violence. The circumstances surrounding her connection to Dean remain under investigation.

Police said Dean “had a history of arrests including for attempt murder in 2011 and an assault with a deadly weapon, a firearm, in 2019. His only convictions were for misdemeanor property crimes.”

All Santa Monica College campuses were closed on Tuesday as police investigated the incident.

With over 25,000 students enrolled at the college’s six satellite campuses, police have deployed extra patrols on campus while urging students and staff to stay at home.

Campus staff and administrators are mourning Hudson’s death while the incident remains under investigation.

“To Felicia’s family, loved ones and friends, SMC extends our heartfelt condolences and prayer,” Jeffery said. “The college will be conducting a thorough review of this incident. SMC is providing crisis counseling services to employees and students as we grieve our irreplaceable colleague.”

The Santa Monica College Foundation has established a legacy fund in her honor, in collaboration with Hudson’s family which can be found here.

Missing Texas mom, luxury real estate agent seen in last photo before disappearance as family fears worst

The last photo taken of missing Texas mom of four Suzanne Simpson has emerged from the night she was last seen as federal authorities reportedly pursue sealed charges against her husband.

Brad Simpson, 53, was arrested Wednesday in Kendall County on a family violence charge in relation to his wife’s disappearance, Olmos Park Police said. The couple allegedly fought before she disappeared on Oct. 6, police say.

Suzanne’s mother, Barbara Clark, told News 4 San Antonio on Sunday that she does not believe her daughter is alive.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has released a photo of Suzanne from the night of Oct. 6, when she was wearing a black dress outside The Argyle club in Alamo Heights, near San Antonio.

“We want people to have seen that photo and think, and say you know what, I think we saw her…and maybe she’s in that same clothing, we don’t know, maybe she was in distress, we don’t know that, but we want the public to have seen her,” Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas said in a news conference Thursday.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has filed sealed charges against Brad Simpson because some officials feared he might post bond and be released from the Bexar County jail, the San Antonio Express News reported. Further details on the indictment were not released.

According to jail records, Brad Simpson was sent to the Kendall County Jail on a $1 million bond on both charges for a total bond of $2 million. He was transferred to the Bexar County jail on Thursday.

If Simpson posts bond on the county charges, it is possible he could be transferred into the custody of the U.S. Marshals, KSAT reported, according to a Bexar County Central Records official. He is set for a bond hearing Tuesday at the jail’s auxiliary court, the outlet reported.

Police continue to search for Suzanne, a 51-year-old real estate agent. Authorities previously announced that they found two evidence articles of interest in the woods, and they recently found “possible evidence” inside the Simpson home, Villegas said Thursday.

Brad Simpson has been charged with assault causing bodily injury, family violence and unlawful restraint for the Sunday night incident.

Police have tried to interview Brad, but he has been “uncooperative,” Villegas said.

Suzanne’s brother-in-law said in a Facebook post Sunday that the family is grateful for law enforcement efforts and “we will not stop until we find her.”

Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, there was a “disturbance” between the Simpsons at The Argyle, Villegas said at a previous press conference broadcast by WOAI News 4. The couple had been at a birthday party there, according to San Antonio Reports.

Police said the fight between the two got physical. Police were notified of this 24 hours later, when Brad reported his wife of 22 years missing.

A neighbor told police he saw Brad and Suzanne arguing outside his window, and the two then began physically fighting with each other, the outlet reported, based on a police report. The neighbor said he saw Brad “grabbing her upper torso area to gain control of her body,” and when the neighbor went outside, he heard screaming coming from a nearby wooded area.

“That night we think she was in distress…it’s very suspicious though that obviously she’s not going to work, and she’s not checking in on her children,” Villegas added Thursday.

Suzanne was last seen on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 11 p.m. in the 500 block of East Olmos in Olmos Park. She is 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and weighs about 140 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.

The neighbor also told police he saw Brad drive off in his pickup truck about an hour later and return about one or two hours after that.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s assistance, asking anyone who saw Brad’s black 2019 GMC AT4 pickup truck, with a Texas license plate MWD7050, between the morning of Oct. 7 to 11 p.m. on Oct. 8, to please contact the Olmos Park Police Department.

O.C. man exposed himself to middle schoolers, police say

A Santa Ana man was arrested for an alleged weekslong spree of exposing himself to students near Utt Middle School in Tustin.

Three students reported that a man had exposed himself to them in September, and on Tuesday, the Tustin Police Department “conducted surveillance to apprehend the suspect and prevent any further incidents,” according to a news release.

During that surveillance, the man’s car was spotted, and “the suspect was spotted pulling up to a student and seen exposing his genitals,” police said.

Officers pulled that man over, and several victims identified that man, 36-year-old Christopher Scott Shelton, as the person who exposed himself to them, police said.
