The North Carolina Tar Heels and South Carolina Gamecocks will meet in primetime in Charlotte for a Week 1 showdown.

It’s a big opening game for both teams as they look to get the start of the season off to a good start. It’s also a battle of quarterbacks Drake Maye and Spencer Rattler trying to lead their teams to victory.

North Carolina will enter this game ranked No. 21 while the Gamecocks received votes in the preseason AP Top 25 poll. A win would go a long ways for both teams in this one and could be an early season tone-setter.

The last time the two teams met was back in the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl with South Carolina coming out on top. The two teams also met in Week 1 back in 2019 with the Tar Heels upsetting South Carolina in Sam Howell’s first career game.

Prediction

The opening game of the year sees North Carolina facing a tough test with South Carolina and quarterback Spencer Rattler. We will know right away if the Tar Heels’ defense is better going against this Gamecocks offense.

On the other side of the ball, the Tar Heels are led by Drake Maye who is a Heisman Trophy candidate. Can the Tar Heels avoid coming out flat and take care of business?
