Lionel Messi’s new team Inter Miami are thrashed by New England Revolution

Inter Miami fans will be begging for the early arrival of Lionel Messi after they were thrashed 3-1 by New England Revolution on Saturday night.

In the first league game played by the team since the announcement of Messi’s impending transfer, Miami were – again – dreadful, and the result leaves them rock bottom of MLS’ Eastern Conference.

Former Aston Villa star Carles Gil gave the home side the lead in the first half, before Matt Polster and Bobby Wood added the second-half gloss to ease New England to victory over their struggling opponents.

Josef Martinez did manage to pull a goal back for the away side with a late penalty, but it did nothing to change the final result.

And that result was a sixth straight league defeat for Inter Miami, who are now three points adrift of their nearest rivals in the East.

It was Messi fever even though Inter Miami were away from home on Saturday night, with kids pictured playing soccer in Argentina and Barcelona shirts in the parking lot.

The news of his arrival was confirmed on Wednesday, with the Paris Saint-Germain star turning down a romantic return to Barcelona, and the mega-millions of Saudi Arabia, for a move to South Florida.

In the days after the move, Inter Miami became the most-followed sports team in American sports, moving ahead of every NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB team – as well as all their MLS soccer rivals.

On the pitch, though, the team need Messi’s arrival to have a similar impact, with the team struggling to pick up points.

Former boss Phil Neville was sacked last month, with his permanent successor yet to be announced by team owner David Beckham.

Unfortunately for Inter Miami fans, Messi is still contracted with Paris Saint-Germain until the end of June, and the Argentine World Cup winner is not expected to make his debut until at least the middle of July – and probably not until August in MLS.

Messi confirmed his move to MLS in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, in which he said: ‘I’m not going back to Barça, I’m going to Inter Miami.’

Mail Sport understands that Messi, who won four Champions League titles with the Blaugrana and scored 672 goals in 778 games for the club, will be offered a lucrative contract with the MLS club, that could include new deals with adidas and Apple.

ESPN are also reporting that his deal with the American side includes an option that could see him become a part-owner of the football club and a slice of the subscriber revenues from Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass.

After 21 years at Spanish club Barcelona – winning 32 major titles – Messi moved to PSG in 21 on a marquee deal that would see him earn $44m-per-year.

The 35-year-old had been left ’emotionally destroyed’ by his departure from the LaLiga club, after it appeared the club could no longer afford to pay his wages, amid financial turmoil, which despite winning LaLiga this season, are still far from resolved.

In response to the news, Barcelona have released a statement in which president Laporta wished Messi well at his new club.

It reads: ‘On Monday, June 5, Jorge Messi, the player’s father and representative, informed Club President Joan Laporta of the player’s decision to join Inter Miami, despite having been presented with a proposal from Barça, in consideration of the desire of both FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi for him to once again wear blaugrana.

‘President Laporta understood and respected Messi’s decision to want to compete in a league with fewer demands, further away from the spotlight and the pressure he has been subject to in recent years.

‘Both Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi also agreed to work together to promote a proper tribute from Barça fans to honor a footballer who has been, is, and always will be beloved by Barça.’

Four-Star Linebacker Commits To Miami Hurricanes Over FSU Football

Florida State has earned national attention for its haul on the recruiting trail over the last seven days. The Seminoles are putting together the makings of another top-15 class but the reality of the situation is they won’t land every single prospect that they covet.

On Monday, four-star linebacker Gavin Nix announced on social media that he was committing to Miami over FSU. Nix was one of the names near the top of the linebacker board after coming through Tallahassee for an official visit at the end of June.

The Florida native was on campus twice this year, including last weekend. He also took official visits to Miami and Oregon.

This is certainly a nice pickup for the Hurricanes but it’s not really the end of the world for Florida State. The Seminoles already have four-star Ethan Pritchard committed and are in the driver’s seat to land four-star Tavion Wallace, who will announce tomorrow between the Seminoles, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina. Plus, the coaching staff is continuing to do its due diligence on Ohio State pledge TJ Alford.

Nix is coming off a junior season at IMG Academy where he recorded 42 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and one sack.

The 6-foot-0, 225-pound linebacker is regarded as the No. 88 overall prospect, the No. 11 LB, and the No. 15 recruit in Florida in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Florida State holds nine verbal commitments in #Tribe25 which ranks No. 36 in the country. The Seminoles have more than doubled their class over the past few weeks after landing four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn, four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley, four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles, four-star tight end Chase Loftin, and four-star defensive back Zae Thomas.

North Miami mother accused of beating son with stick for not doing chores

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A North Miami mother was arrested over the weekend after police said she beat her son with a wooden stick and threw him to the floor.

The incident was reported around 7 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Sole Mia Way.

According to the woman’s arrest report, her daughter witnessed the beating and ran to a security guard before police were called.

North Miami police said the victim told responding officers that his mother, Carolina Barco, 33, was upset with him because he didn’t do his chores.

He said she became irate, grabbing a thick wooden stick and striking him multiple times on both his arms with it, according to the report.

The report states Barco also struck her son with an open hand on his face and body, squeezed his face with both her hands and then threw him to the floor.

Police said he sustained a small cut on the right side of his face and a cut to his left thumb, which also appeared to be slightly swollen.

Large bruises were also spotted on his arms, authorities said.

According to the report, the victim told police he did not want to go back inside the home with his mother.

Police said Barco denied hitting her son, but said she left her kids alone for about 20 minutes and returned to find the house a mess.

She claimed her son didn’t help clean up after she told him to do so and had been inside playing video games.

Barco was arrested on a child abuse charge.

As of Monday afternoon, she remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.

The boy’s age was not released by police.

It’s not clear who is currently caring for Barco’s two children.
