Louisiana pastor returns from Ukraine

AMITE, La. (WAFB) – An Amite pastor and his spouse witnessed the destruction in Ukraine firsthand.

Mervin and Dasha Strother, senior pastors at Cornerstone Church of Amite, simply returned after three days of volunteering at a refugee middle on the border of Ukraine and Romania, the place they helped translate for households from Ukraine.

4 Louisiana Universities Named Among Best in America


Four universities in Louisiana are among the best in the United States, according to an analysis by Money.

A total of 745 universities across the country were included in the list created by looking at financial aid, cost of attendance, graduation rates, and other factors.

The four Louisiana universities to make the list include:

  • Dillard University
  • Louisiana State University
  • Louisiana Tech University
  • Tulane University

The highest scores went to the latter three on the list with three out of five stars.

Tulane University had the lowest acceptance rate (by a wide margin) among the four Louisiana schools at only 11%. However, it also had the highest graduation rate at 85%.

Out of the four schools, Louisiana Tech had the lowest price tag with an estimated full price of $26,000 for the 2024-25 school year. The highest was Tulane at a whopping $87,200.

Two killed in Avoyelles Parish crash, LSP reports


AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (KALB) – The Louisiana State Police Troop E reported that two people were killed in Avoyelles Parish after a crash on July 4.

Troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash on Hwy 29 near Overby Road at around 1:30 am.

The incident reportedly killed Shepherd Roy Jr., 63, of Bunkie and Robert Johnson, 75, of Breaux Bridge.

Investigators stated that, for reasons not yet determined, a vehicle driven by Roy crossed into the oncoming lane on Hwy 29 and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Johnson. Neither were wearing seatbelts and both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigator reportedly suspect that impairment was a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were collected for analysis.
