Collectively, they’re 22-15 in league play. Kentucky is presently tied for fourth within the SEC, Duke sixth within the ACC, North Carolina tied for eighth.

Within the NCAA’s present NET rankings, the place the Quad 1 video games show how a crew does in opposition to the heaviest competitors, they are a mixed 5-22. Iowa has seven Quad 1 wins by itself.

And this week has been a showcase of their struggles, a warning shot three weeks from March that every one of them want to begin discovering solutions quickly.

RANKINGS: Houston and Texas surge within the Energy 36 faculty basketball rankings

Duke is now 17-7, however a wobbly 5-7 away from Cameron Indoor Stadium. They Blue Devils misplaced by 11 at Wake Forest, by 24 at North Carolina State after they had been outscored 31-2 in factors off turnovers. That hole was 23-9 at Miami. They have been a tad unstable in blue uniforms.

“It wasn’t the identical degree of competing,” coach Jon Scheyer stated of the bashing by the Hurricanes, when Duke by no means led and trailed by as many as 26.

“That is on me, on our guys, on our crew. It is disappointing, not OK with it.”

Kentucky was house in opposition to Arkansas Tuesday and trailed by one level at halftime. Then the Wildcats coughed up 47 factors within the second half because the Razorbacks shredded their protection for 72 p.c taking pictures, operating away to win 88-73.

That makes three Rupp Area losses since Jan. 10 for the 16-8 Wildcats.

“We’re not going to let this outline how the remainder of our season goes,” guard Cason Wallace stated afterward, however Kentucky wants to determine some issues shortly.

John Calipari desires a extra bodily effort from an often leaky protection. Kentucky was worn out 46-28 within the paint Tuesday and Calipari talked about at one level in his post-game post-mortem how “I am unable to get guys to physique up and do that stuff.”

And what’s with Oscar Tshiebwe? The reigning nationwide participant of the yr had a quiet seven factors and 7 rebounds in opposition to Arkansas. He has 11 factors mixed in his previous two video games.

North Carolina dropped in on Wake Forest Tuesday evening and was behind 22 factors by halftime. It ended 92-85, an odd recreation the place Wake’s Tyree Appleby made an ACC file 23 free throws and the Tar Heels managed to attain 60 factors within the second half and nonetheless lose. STAY UPDATED: Comply with each recreation in our males’s basketball scoreboard

Properly, awful outdoors taking pictures for one factor. The Tar Heels are 16-for-72 from past the 3-point arc on this latest three-game skid. Two of their most important scorers, RJ Davis and Pete Nance, are 2-for-27. All that leaves North Carolina 318th within the nation in 3-point taking pictures. You need to return 49 years to search out an NCAA Event with none of those three packages, and it very possible will not occur this season. Kentucky now goes on the street to Georgia and Mississippi State and may afford to lose neither. The Wildcats’ win at Tennessee final month will carry them a good distance of their match choice profile however it will possibly’t cowl up the whole lot in the event that they stumble additional. Tennessee shall be in Rupp Area on Feb. 18 and a sweep of the Vols would do wonders for the crumbling confidence and grumbling demeanor of Large Blue Nation.

North Carolina must proper itself at house. The Tar Heels’subsequent two video games are Clemson and Miami, each in Chapel Hill. Virginia and Duke will cease by later. There’s a probability to beef up the metrics.

Three giants, then, now every face numerous moments of reality, attempting to repair flaws which have grow to be most conspicuous the previous two days.

ESPN picks the winner between Kentucky and Georgia State

The Kentucky Wildcats are getting ready to take on Georgia State in Rupp Arena as Mark Pope’s squad will look to move to 7-0 on the season. In the Wildcat’s first game of the week, they took down WKU, but for the first team, all season looked vulnerable.

The Wildcats were able to win this game 87-68, but there were some things Coach Pope’s team could have done better. Defensively the Wildcats were solid in the win, but the threes weren’t falling in this ball game.

A game like this was good for Kentucky because they have looked unstoppable against every team this season aside from Duke, so a little bit of struggle is a good thing. The threes won’t always fall, so the Wildcats need to learn to win a game when this is happening.

Now the Wildcats will take on Georgia State who is 4-3 on the season. The Panthers played Mississippi State earlier in the season, and the Bulldogs blew them out 101-61 in Starkville.
