Israel resumes bombardment of Gaza after cease-fire with Hamas ends

Family members of the American citizens still being held hostage in Gaza are urging the Red Cross to act on its imperative to deliver life-saving care immediately.

“We are outraged knowing our loved ones, including those with grave injuries, have not yet received the critically needed medical care and humanitarian aid from the Red Cross to which they are entitled under the pause agreement with Hamas,” the families said in a statement released Friday.

The families urged the Red Cross to honor its international mandate to visit civilian detainees in times of war to monitor their treatment and conditions.

“The United States funds 25% of the Red Cross’s budget. Yet not a single American hostage has been visited to date. After 55 days of agony, we still don’t know anything about the condition of our loved ones, but we do know many of them were taken with life-threatening injuries, and they need medical attention now,” the statement continued.

“We call on the Red Cross to demand immediate, unfettered access to the nearly 150 hostages still in captivity. We urge the U.S. government and international community to use their influence and financial leverage to push the Red Cross to fulfill its role and responsibility to the hostages. And we implore donors, financial institutions, and other supporters of the Red Cross to make their voices heard on the matter and demand action to provide oversight and life-saving care to hostages immediately,” they added.

And, the families said: “We cannot wait a moment longer. While the Red Cross dithers, our family members are dying. They have lived in captivity for more than 8 weeks with grave injuries inflicted by Hamas – broken bones, limbs blown off, gunshot wounds, and more. They are malnourished and reports show they are being subjected to physical and mental torture. The Red Cross is neglecting sick, critically wounded, and disabled people at a time of greatest need. We need action now to save their lives.”

The families are also urging major donors of the Red Cross including financial institutions like Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and PayPal, to leverage their influence to call for immediate action.

FC Dallas Fires Nico Estévez

FC Dallas Fires Nico Estévez

Announced last Sunday, this change in coaching leadership promises to significantly impact the team’s performance, as they currently face a series of challenges on and off the field. Longtime assistant Peter Luccin steps in as interim coach, bringing hope for stability and renewal.

Estévez, hired in December 2021, had a tenure marked by ups and downs. With a record of 28 wins, 27 losses, and 29 draws, he managed to lead FC Dallas to the Audi MLS Cup playoffs in 2022 and 2023, as well as advancing in the Leagues Cup. However, a recent string of negative results, coupled with a wave of injuries plaguing the squad, made his position untenable. Club president Dan Hunt explained that the decision to fire Estévez wasn’t easy and required much deliberation, especially considering we’re still early in the season.

Injuries played a crucial role in FC Dallas’s performance decline. Alan Velasco, one of the team’s key playmakers, has been out since late last year due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Paxton Pomykal is also unavailable for the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury. Additionally, Petar Musa, the club’s record signing, and Jesús Ferreira, who has been battling injuries, have limited the team’s ability to remain competitive.

With a record of 3 wins, 8 losses, and 5 draws this season, FC Dallas sits in 13th place in the Western Conference, with 14 points—seven below the playoff line, but with two games in hand. The lack of wins in the last five games, including a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United, was the final straw for the board. Peter Luccin, who has been with the club since 2019 as an assistant coach, has been appointed as interim coach.

The choice of Luccin is a smart move by the FC Dallas board. He deeply understands the club’s culture and the players, which could facilitate a smooth transition and possibly improve the team’s performance in the short term. Luccin’s debut as interim coach is set for the match against St. Louis CITY SC on June 15.

With a squad affected by injuries and underperforming, the FC Dallas board seeks a renewal that can bring new energy and ideas to the team. The coaching market is full of options, and the club will immediately begin the search for a permanent replacement. The challenge will be to find someone who can not only deal with the current challenges but also build a long-term project that takes FC Dallas to the top of the MLS.

Miami Named A Top 10 Offensive Line In The Country; First Alert: June 10, 2024

Coming into the season, the Miami Hurricanes Offensive line was a major talking point with the addition of quarterback transfer Cameron Ward. Pro Football Focus now ranks them as a top 10 offensive line in the country.

With the returning starters of Anez Cooper, Jalen Rivers, and Francis Mauigoa this team will have continuity that many around the nation will not see. The addition of Indiana transfer center Zach Carpenter also plays an interesting role in this equation as well.

The expectations for the Hurricanes continues to rise while the team continues to buy into the hype that it is for themselves. This is one of the best o-lines in the country and new additions are only bolstering what can be for this team. One of the many things that leads to championships for football is a dominant and impactful offensive line and with that, the hurricanes can be one of the best teams in the country.
