Charlamagne defends airline policy saying particularly obese passengers must buy 2nd seat

Radio host Charlamagne tha God praised an upcoming airline policy change on Wednesday, saying obese passengers should consider eating less food if they don’t want to buy a second seat to accommodate their size.

Beginning on Jan. 27, 2026, Southwest Airlines will ditch open seating, having previously had a “pick any seat” policy, allowing customers to purchase tickets in different boarding groups by selecting where they wanted to sit upon boarding the plane.

The airline has also cautioned portly customers “who encroach upon the neighboring seat(s)” to proactively purchase the necessary number of seats prior to travel. Next month, however, such customers “will be required to purchase an additional seat and pay any applicable seat fee at the airport.”

“Why don’t they just make them fly cargo?” Charlamagne asked on “The Breakfast Club” radio show as his crew discussed the upcoming change. “And furthermore, I don’t have a problem at all with this, OK? If you are too big for one seat, then you just got to buy two seats. Don’t act like the plane is doing something to you. You know how big you are!”

“But what if you don’t got the bread to buy another seat, but you fat? You can’t control that,” co-host Jess Hilarious said.

“Well, you shouldn’t have been eating so much bread. You need to stop eating bread. All right? OK. By the way, tall people got to go through this, too! Tall people gotta buy the extra leg-room seats, so it ain’t just fat people that gotta deal with this. If you’re a tall person, you gotta buy extra legroom because you know you need it.”

“I don’t think that this is any wrongdoing of the plane, is what I’m simply saying,” Charlamagne said, going on to mention how stuffing somebody who does not fit well into a seat is not only a disservice to them, but to whomever sits next to them.

He later concluded by telling listeners, “So Southwest is making a push to cut costs, it’s the new year, you should make a push to cut weight, OK? That should be your New Year’s resolution.”

LSP: Ascension Parish resident dies in two-vehicle crash


Louisiana State Police reported an Ascension Parish resident died in a fatal crash in Livingston Parish.

According to an LSP Troop A news release, 68-year-old Gwendolyn Blank of St. Amant died in the two-vehicle crash along Highway 1032 near Debbie Lane around 3:30 p.m. July 11.

Per the release, the preliminary investigation found that a 2016 Toyota Avalon was traveling south on the highway when, at the same time, a 2023 Dodge Ram was traveling northbound.

For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed the center line in a left-hand curve and collided head-on with the truck, troopers reported in the realease.

Blank, who was the front seat passenger in the car, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, where she later died, according to LSP.

Troopers reported the driver of the car sustained moderate injuries, and a juvenile rear-seat passenger had minor injuries, while the driver of the truck received minor injuries.

No. 1: WR/ATH: One More Game‑Breaker to Complete the Takeover

Maryland has already executed one of the boldest position‑group strategies in the country with six wide receivers in a single class. It’s a volume play designed for the transfer‑portal era, ensuring the Terps always have explosive depth regardless of attrition. Even with Myles McAfee (four-star), Davion Vanderbilt (three-star), Kyren Caldwell (three-star), Anthony Henderson (three-star), Alex Fontenot (three-star), and Mason McClure (three-star), the staff still wants one more finishing piece, a true matchup‑breaker.

Why? Because the Big Ten is becoming a “basketball‑on‑grass” league. Locksley wants a room where any of the top four receivers can win a game. That final edge/DL spot is all about upside, landing a long, developmental athlete with the traits to eventually become a true difference‑maker.

No. 4: Offensive Line: The Most Important Remaining Need

This is the big one. Maryland has three offensive linemen committed, including Alabama tackle Caleb Canty, who brings true SEC‑level size and movement skills, but the staff knows the Big Ten is won in the trenches, and the offensive line remains the most important remaining priority. July camps will ultimately shape the board, yet the Terps still need a true left‑tackle frame, more interior depth, and higher‑rated linemen to raise the class’s per‑player average. The offensive line is where Maryland can make its biggest leap. The class has depth everywhere else, but now it needs quality and long‑term upside in the trenches to match.

4-star Kennedy Green commits to Mississippi State football again in 2027 class


STARKVILLE — Four-star safety Kennedy Green recommitted to Mississippi State football on July 11.

The Douglasville, Georgia, native chose the Bulldogs over offers from South Carolina, North Carolina, Nebraska, Auburn and more. He originally committed to MSU in November 2024 but backed off his commitment in June 2025.

He is ranked No. 373 nationally by the 247Sports Composite and as the No. 32 safety and No. 40 player in Georgia.

Green, who’s 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, is MSU’s fourth four-star in the 2027 recruiting class joining running backs Yoshawn Hudson and Christian Alexander and defensive lineman Jaden Bayonne.

Mississippi State’s recruiting class was ranked No. 52 nationally and last in the SEC before Green’s commitment.

Green recorded 56 tackles last season with two interceptions.

The Bulldogs have three other safeties in the class, both of whom are three-stars: Trae’kerrion Collins, Hudson Fuqua and Ke’Vontae Pitts.
