2.3 million micro-enterprise center, Accelerate Augusta set to open next year
AUGUSTA, Ga. –
A big investment is coming to Downtown Augusta, that could make your life a whole lot easier.
It has been two years in the making. Augusta Technical College and The Downtown Development Authority joined forces to create a new micro-enterprise center.
A one-stop shop for small and start-up businesses in our community. Today, they revealed the name of the new center.
People gathered at 600 Broad Street to witness the name unveiling of Augusta Tech and the DDA’s new micro-enterprise center.
Augusta Tech and the DDA partnered in late 2021 to start brainstorming for this project. They wanted to create a central location for small and start-up businesses to obtain resources and the help that they may need.
A 2.3-million-dollar investment will fund the center. Margaret Woodard, the Executive Director for the DDA says the center is a major need.
“It’s a centralized resource center for small business and start-up businesses. We’ve seen tremendous growth in the downtown corridor.” Said Woodard.
Accelerate Augusta will offer training sessions for those who are interested. Doctor Jermaine Whirl, Augusta Tech’s President says that working with local small businesses helped with the project’s development.
“…What are those big major points that we need to get to ensure…they are moving forward.” Said, Doctor Whirl.
Doctor Whirl also told Fox54 they plan to join forces with other local organizations that are interested in helping small and start-up businesses.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A new taproom is now open in Augusta.
Ready Player One had its grand opening this weekend.
The new business has games, a bar and a tap room.
You can find them on Broad Street.
They will have live music and several big screens where you can watch live sports.
The new business is pet-friendly and open until 2 a.m.

Augusta, Ga- Augusta fell to North Georgia in game two of their series on Saturday afternoon at Jaguar field 31-1. The Jaguars are now 5-9 in the conference and 8-25 overall. The first place Nighthawks move to 12-2 in the conference and 23-9 overall.
The lone run for the Jaguars came in the first inning when Nolan Turner doubled to lead off the game. Mike Morrison would follow with a RBI single to plate Turner. For Morrison, he extended his hit streak to 25 straight games.
Parker Ingram and Eli Overstreet also collected hits for AU.
The UNG offense would be the story in scoring runs in all but one inning.
The series wraps up Sunday morning with the first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University softball earned a comeback win in game one before falling just short in a high-scoring second game, splitting Saturday’s Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with visiting Georgia College at Jaguar Field.
Game 1: Augusta 6, Georgia College 5
The Jaguars rallied from a 5-2 deficit with a four-run seventh inning to claim the opener in dramatic fashion. A leadoff single by Grace Bailey and a pinch-hit single from Kelsea Moody started the surge. A walk to Sam Tener loaded the bases, and Ayellad Howard‘s RBI single brought the game within two.
After a sacrifice fly from Bailee Roberts and a groundout RBI from Ansley Gibson tied it, Augusta sealed the win when Howard raced home on a passed ball to score the winning run.
Gibson earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete game with seven hits allowed, five runs (only one earned), and two strikeouts.
Roberts and Howard each recorded a hit, RBI, and run scored. Tener reached base twice and scored two runs, while Gibson drove in two.
Game 2: Georgia College 8, Augusta 7
Despite outhitting the Bobcats 13-9, Augusta came up just short in a back-and-forth battle in game two. The Jaguars led 5-1 after three innings and tied it again at 7-7 in the sixth following a solo home run from Bailee Roberts, but a late RBI double in the seventh lifted Georgia College to the win.
Roberts finished 2-for-4 with a home run, RBI, and a sacrifice bunt. Howard went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI, and run scored. Ansley Gibson drove in two with a first-inning double, and Grace Bailey added two more RBIs with a pair of singles.
Madalyn Spinks pitched all seven innings for Augusta and struck out three, allowing six earned runs in the loss.
