Salvation Army, First National Bank host Back-to-School Bash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Salvation Army and First National Bank hosted a Back-to-School Bash in the South Hills Saturday for students in and around Pittsburgh.
The kids who came out got everything from free school supplies to haircuts.
It was back to school with a bang Saturday, as dozens of students came out to get ready for the upcoming academic year.
It was all smiles and fun as students and family gathered at the Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple and Service Center for their annual Back-to-School Bash.
The event was presented with First National Bank, and kids got everything from new backpacks and school supplies to gently used clothes and shoes. And free haircuts for students were available onsite, along with food and fun family activities.
Major Justin Caldwell of the Salvation Army says this time of the year can be stressful for families, and he loves that they can give back to those in need.
“I love being able to remind families that there’re people that care about the situations that they’re in, and so many have come together to make this thing happen. So, I love being able to give families hope during a difficult season.”
Nyesha Rainey of the Hill District says that events like today’s really help families make ends meet and get their kids what they need for the upcoming year.
“This program is awesome because it really helps our children. There are times where we are working, and we have to pay bills and do different things like that, so we’re not able to prepare our children for school. So, to have programs like this that can help us with food and help us prepare our children for school is really a godsend,” Rainey said.
If you missed the event, the Salvation Army says they are dedicated to helping students here in Western Pennsylvania all year long.

Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign former Alabama prep standout

Former Hoover High School standout Jeremiah Moon will be back with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.
The NFL team announced on Friday the outside linebacker had signed a one-year contract after playing in 13 games, with one start, for Pittsburgh in 2024.
Moon entered the offseason as an exclusive-rights free agent – a player with two or fewer NFL accrued seasons and an expiring contract. Because the Steelers did not tender Moon a contract before the start of the league’s 2025 business year on March 12, he became an unrestricted free agent. But he still returned to Pittsburgh.
An All-State defensive end for Hoover in 2015, Moon played six seasons at Florida before entering the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022.
Moon spent his rookie season on the Baltimore practice squad. In 2023, he appeared on the active roster and the practice squad and played in eight games, with one start.
Moon also played in a postseason contest for the Ravens before Baltimore waived him on Jan. 26, 2024, to create a roster spot for tight end Mark Andrews, who made it back from injured reserve just in time for the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
After spending the first four weeks of the 2024 season on injured reserve because of an ankle injury, Moon was on the field for 111 defensive snaps and 222 special-teams plays. He also played in the Steelers’ 28-14 loss to Baltimore in the first round of the AFC playoffs.

Steelers Hosting Potential First-Round QB

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to do their due diligence on the quarterback class in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Though everything comes back to Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers understand that they can’t wait around and need to spur action as it relates to finding a long-term solution at the position.
After meeting with Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Texas’ Quinn Ewers and Ohio State’s Will Howard ahead of their respective Pro Days, The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo has reported that Pittsburgh plans on welcoming Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart into town for a top-30 visit next month.
Without a realistic chance of landing Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, both of whom are expected to go off the board early in the first round, Dart may slot in at the top of the next tier of quarterback prospects this year.
After beginning his collegiate career at USC, he transferred to Ole Miss ahead of the 2022 campaign and finished with the most passing yards in program history with 10,617.
Dart’s best all-around showing came this past season, as he guided the Rebels to a 10-3 record while throwing for 4,279 yards on a 69.3 percent completion rate, both of which led the SEC, while adding 29 touchdowns and six interceptions.
He participated in the Senior Bowl in January and later brought his A-game in passing drills at the NFL Scouting Combine, which steadily raised his stock.
Dart’s caught some flack for his lack of anticipation, and his reputation as a one-read quarterback hasn’t helped either, but it’s hard to ignore the upside he possesses due to his athleticism and physical tools.
He’s not yet polished, but the Steelers and plenty of other teams around the league seem excited about the potential of bringing him into their quarterback rooms.
Pittsburgh would likely have to use their first-round pick, which sits at No. 21, in order to select Dart, and it appears as though it is giving real consideration to that possibility.
