Pittsburgh area church offering “Parents Night Out” childcare for Valentine’s Day
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It’s a sweetheart deal so parents can enjoy a night out, away from the kids, and on Valentine’s Day.
It’s the real deal for local families all thanks to a local church.
Valentine’s Day plans can sometimes take a backseat to child care and now, Memorial Park Church in McCandless doesn’t want that to happen this year.
On Valentine’s Day, from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., you can take your kiddos to the church’s children’s wing and the Clayton Center while you and your significant other enjoy a stress-free evening.
The church will watch your little ones and keep them entertained.
This isn’t just for the little ones either, it’s for kids of all ages.
Ryan Pietryga, the fellowship’s Director of Family Live said they’ll be set up with caretakers and facilities that will be appropriate for newborns all the way to high schoolers.
He said they’ve been blessed with the ability to offer the service so they want to make sure they can help as many families as possible.
“We know life is busy,” he said. “We know life can be a little chaotic at times so if we can help families in any way, even if that just means taking their kids for a couple of hours while they go have a date night, that’s what we want to do.”
Again, he said this is for anyone, not just the Memorial Park Church Community.
Finally, there’s no cap – meaning they’re not limiting the number of kids they’ll watch that night.
However, you will have to register by February 8.
Of course, the only other challenge is making sure you can get a reservation on Valentine’s Day that fits within that two-and-a-half-hour window.

PITTSBURGH, PA — An arrest has been made in connection with the death of a man last month whose body was dumped in a wooded area in Shaler after he was fatally shot.
On Dec. 26, Shaler police were dispatched to the woods near the 200 block of Hahn Road for reports of a body there. They found the body of Andre Wallace, 45, who had been shot in the head.
Allegheny County police investigated the incident. Through witness interviews and surveillance video, detectives determined the shooting occurred near the 2400 block of Chauncey Drive in the Hill District. County and city police worked together and were able to identify the suspect as Eugene Jones, 25, of Pittsburgh.
The U.S. Marshales Fugitive Task Force took Jones into custody Thursday. He is facing multiple charges, including homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license.
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Police are investigating a report of a card skimmer being found at a station in the city’s Brookline neighborhood.
Pittsburgh Police say a possible skimmer was reported at the Exxon gas station and 7-Eleven convenience store located along Brookline Boulevard on Wednesday.
The alleged victim told police their transaction was declined, but funds not matching that original transaction were still withdrawn from their account.
Police say their investigation is still ongoing and ask anyone who suspects illegal activity to report it to their local police zone or call 911.
Things to watch for when it comes to card skimmers
Devices like the one being investigated in Brookline have been reported at grocery stores throughout the Pittsburgh area over the past couple of months, including in places like New Kensington, Lower Burrell, Plum, and Scott Township.
As more of these devices pop up, here’s a few things you can do to remain aware and vigilant.
First, inspect card readers before you use them.
Watch out for bulky, damaged, or loosely attached devices and look for any exposed wires.
Pull the edges of the key pad before you enter your PIN and you should cover the keypad with your hand in case a camera is recording your number.
Instead of swiping or inserting your card, Pennsylvania State Police troopers say it’s safer to tap your card if it has that option or pay via your mobile device.
COYOACAN, Mexico (KDKA) – When the Pittsburgh Steelers play on the road, their fans follow them in droves. It’s called “Steeler Nation” for a reason.
However, one place where the Steelers have a massive fan base is south of the border in Mexico and that footprint just got larger.
The NFL and Kentucky Fried Chicken have opened three team-themed locations in Mexico and it includes the Steelers.
Each location is decked out in team colors, logos, and jerseys, and has a Big Box Meal that comes with a mini helmet.
The Steelers-themed KFC location is in Coyoacan, about 30 miles south of Mexico City.
According to a report from SteelersNow’s Alan Saunders, the Steelers could play a game in Mexico City this year, making it the first time the Steelers have played an international game since 2013.
A 2015 study from Harvard Sports Analysis found that the Steelers had more than half a million followers on Facebook from Mexico and have sponsored trips to Mexico that included active Steelers players.
“We would definitely like to play in Mexico again sometime soon,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II. “We have a great fanbase down there, and we have the right under the new international program the league has to have more of a presence in Mexico.”
Along with the Steelers location, there are San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs locations.
