Kansas Basketball ‘Heavily Involved’ With International Big Man Recruit

Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks might pivot to the international route to fill out the team’s remaining scholarships.

Of the three roster spots left, KU is prioritizing a backup big man, and a potential option is French 7-footer Brice Dessert.

Flory Bidunga is the projected starting center for the Jayhawks, though redshirt freshman Bryson Tiller is the only piece of depth in KU’s frontcourt. Dessert and Bidunga could form into a dominant one-two punch.

If he joins the roster, Dessert could play a valuable role off the bench or even share the floor with Bidunga in bigger lineups.

The Jayhawks have also been linked to other big-man options like Patrick Suemnick, but Dessert is undoubtedly a more intriguing and high-upside target.

Woman, 68, killed Monday in head-on crash in southeast Kansas

CHEROKEE, Kan. (WIBW) – A woman died and a man was seriously injured following a head-on crash Monday afternoon in Crawford County in southeast Kansas, officials said.

The collision was reported at 2:45 p.m. Monday on US-400 highway about four miles west of Cherokee.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2015 Nissan Altima was eastbound on US-400 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck that was westbound on the highway.

The Nissan then spun counterclockwise and came to rest in the roadway, while the Dodge truck left the roadway to the right, rolled once and came to rest on its wheels facing south in the north ditch.

The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, Carol S. Sharp, 68, of Altoona, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, where she was pronounced dead. The patrol said Sharp was wearing her seat belt.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as Eric M. Meyers, 38, of Des Moines, Iowa, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg with serious injuries. The patrol said Meyers was wearing his seat belt.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, the patrol said.

Website and app for Kansas drivers has several updates

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A website and app that assists Kansas drivers has received an upgrade.

On Monday, the Kansas Department of Transportation said KanDrive, which has served motorists in the state since 2009, has the following new features:

Ability to report incidents through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Hands-free voice incident reporting through Apple CarPlay
High wind/weather and slow-moving vehicle alerts
Expanded work zone updates
Enhanced detour information
Integration with Alexa-enabled devices
Oversize truck location mapping (U.S. Highway 83 corridor only)

KDOT said the features are available statewide and were developed as part of the U.S. Highway 83 Advanced Technology Project.

KanDrive provides real-time travel information such as road conditions, closures, construction updates, camera/video feeds and detour information.
