Metro Detroit realtor postpones Matthew Stafford jersey swap ahead of Lions-Rams playoff matchup

DETROIT – Metro Detroit realtor Jeff Glover has postponed his Matthew Stafford jersey swap event ahead of the Lions first home playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams inside Ford Field.
Glover, who owns Glover Agency Realtors, wanted to give away 1,000 new Lions jerseys in exchange for the 14-year veterans’ used, now retro, jersey.
In exchange, Glover said he would donate sed jerseys to homeless shelters needing clothing for adults and people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles, California.
Glover Agency sent out a press release stating that his agency was prohibited from hosting the Detroit Lions jersey exchange at the request of the NFL.
“At the request of the NFL, Glover Agency is prohibited from hosting the Lions Jersey Exchange at this time. We hope to get back with a rescheduled date soon. Our sincerest apologies. For more information, please call us at 248-566-7200 or email us at info@gloveragency.com.”

Lions fans were going to have the opportunity to wear a brand new, on-field replica jersey bearing the name of a player that was currently on the team instead of paying homage to an opponent that is looking to eliminate their hometown team from the playoffs.
“While I can appreciate what Stafford has done for our city, as a fan myself, it drives me crazy to see so many Stafford jerseys still being worn by fans at our own games,” said Glover. “Imagine how you’d feel if you were our quarterback, looking out into the seats of Ford Field and seeing another QB’s jersey on hundreds, if not thousands of fans, especially one who’s still in the league and now competing against us!”
Before the event’s cancellation, Glover wanted to give fans who returned their gently used, freshly washed Stafford jerseys in exchange for a Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, or Aidan Hutchinson jersey.
“I purchased mostly Goff jerseys because we need to get behind the QB that is poised to take us all the way, and it just seemed right to trade QB for QB, although the first few hundred fans will get to pick from one of the three,” Glover said.
Glover continued:
“Since Stafford no longer plays in Detroit, my feeling was to get the traded-in jersey into the hands of those that would appreciate wearing their quarterback’s name on their back, assuming they are fans of the LA Rams. If they are not fans, I hope it at least makes someone’s day or night a little bit more comfortable.”

Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase Extensions Presents Lions Major Dilemma

The market for NFL wide receivers continues to elevate with each passing offseason. Recenty, the contract extensions of Bengals wideouts Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins present the Detroit Lions a significant dilemma.
Chase, one of the league’s top wideouts, secured a four-year, $161 million extension, while Higgins secured a four-year extension totalling $115 million.
Detroit features a young, speedy wideout in Jameson Williams, who is now eligible to have his fifth-year option picked up by the organization that selected him in the first-round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Is Williams worth $28.75 million annually, the amount the Bengals are paying Higgins? If the team decides to wait, the market could reach north of $45 million annually pretty quickly.
“I think everybody was confident we’d get Ja’Marr done,” Burrow said, via the Bengals team website. “But to be able to get Tee done along with that speaks volumes about ownership, Duke Tobin, Zac Taylor and their ability to get those things done.”
Detroit’s front office has showcased they are willing to sign their own players. But next year, Brian Branch, Sam LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell will be eligible for extensions.
General manager Brad Holmes can deploy a similar strategy with Williams the Bengals did with Higgins, placing the franchise tag on the speedy wideout for the 2027 season.
But each passing year the former Alabama Crimson Tide wideout does not secure a long-term extension, the price tag is likely going to skyrocket. Chase is now earning slightly north of $40 million annually.
“We’re paying the right guys. Guys who work really hard for what they have. Guys who aren’t going to get complacent or anything like that,” Burrow explained about his top wideouts earning lucrative extensions. “Guys who really care about the product they put on the field, and care about the fans and the organization and the people in the locker room. We’ve got the right guys.”
Detroit previously signed Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year, $120 million extension.
Is there room for another wideout on the roster breaking the bank? Holmes and Co. are now facing decisions on who to prioritize the next couple of NFL offseasons.

Detroit Red Wings continue to slide down playoff standings after 4-1 loss to Capitals

Detroit Red Wings’ Alex DeBrincat on secret to his success
Detroit Red Wings Todd McLellan & Alex DeBrincat, March 18, 2025 in Washington.
WASHINGTON — The Detroit Red Wings showed signs of embracing the pressure of chasing a playoff spot, but ultimately couldn’t handle the top team in the Eastern Conference.
Their outing against the Washington Capitals Tuesday at Capital One Arena came 11 days after a trade-deadline meltdown; even with Petr Mrazek, one of their acquisitions from that day, in net, the Wings crumbled in the third period, falling 4-1.
The Wings (32-30-6) lost for the seventh time in 10 games, which has bumped them to the outside of the playoff picture, with only 14 games left to make up ground.
There were no penalties in the game, and only two goals through two periods, with Dylan Larkin making it 1-1 on his 28th goal of the season. But the Capitals ran off three straight goals in the third period: Pierre-Luc Dubois made it 2-1 when he backed down Justin Holl while closing in on Detroit’s net and sent a fluttering shot into the twine. Tom Wilson essentially put the game away when he drove to the net and called for the puck, and Connor McMichael delivered the final blow with a goal at 15:27.
It doesn’t end with us
Capitals superstar Alex Ovechnkin entered Tuesday’s game eight goals from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record of 894 goals. It’s history in the making, but like every other opponent, the Wings don’t want to see it in person.
“It’s going to be really exciting when he does break it, because he will,” Wings coach Todd McLellan said earlier in the day. “To be watching it, you just don’t really want to be on the bench. And let’s face it, if he gets to the record tonight, we’re in real deep trouble.”
Mrazek busy early on
The Wings started well and Mrazek made a notable save on McMichael near the five-minute mark when McMichael ripped a shot on net. Mrazek made a pad save, and then scooped away the puck to prevent a rebound chance. But McMichael was part of a scoring shift soon after, screening Mrazek so that he couldn’t see Dylan Strome’s shot until the puck sank into the far corner, at 6:36 of the first period. That was the only blemish, though, as the Caps directed 14 shots on net in the first 20 minutes.
Offense from defense
The Wings got one back at 12:28, thanks to some nifty work by defenseman Ben Chiarot. Ovechkin fired the puck out of Washington’s zone, but Chiarot intercepted the puck at the red line and circled back, going up ice and firing a backhand shot. Logan Thompson stopped that, but had no answer for Larkin’s second-chance goal. It was Chiarot’s second assist the last three games – and one game after fellow defenseman Albert Johansson scored a beauty of a goal in the Vegas game.

Cade Cunningham, Detroit Pistons rout New Orleans Pelicans 127-81

Cade Cunningham had 24 points and eight assists, and the Detroit Pistons routed the New Orleans Pelicans 127-81 on Monday night.
Simone Fontecchio scored 23 points for Detroit, which had dropped four of six.
Zion Williamson had 30 points for New Orleans, and Yves Missi finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Williamson also grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.
The Pelicans lost for the seventh time in eight games. And postgame, New Orleans announced Trey Murphy III was diagnosed with a torn labrum and partial tear of the rotator cuff in his right shoulder, an injury that happened when he dislocated the shoulder in the first quarter Monday. He will miss the rest of the season.
Cunningham scored 17 points to help Detroit to a 63-32 halftime lead. Fontecchio had 18 points in the second half.
Pistons: Fontecchio delivered an efficient performance in a reserve role. He went 5 for 5 from beyond the arc and 9 for 10 from the field overall. He also grabbed seven rebounds in 21 1/2 minutes.
Pelicans: It was a bad shooting night in a variety of ways. The Pelicans shot 32.6% from the field, including a 5-for-32 from 3-point range. They went 20 for 30 at the free-throw line.
The Pistons grabbed control with a 24-5 run that began in the first quarter and carried over into the second. Dennis Schroder’s driving layup made it 41-14 with 10:21 left in the first half.
Led by Fontecchio and Jalen Duren, the Pistons had a 50-39 rebounding advantage.
The Pistons visit the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. Next up for the Pelicans is two straight games at the Minnesota Timberwolves, beginning on Wednesday night.
