DETROIT (FOX 2) – Police say a Metro Detroit woman did everything she could to escape her violently abusive ex-boyfriend, but he wasn’t accepting her refusal.

“He dragged her to his car, stuffed her in the back; you could see in the video he handcuffed her, he had the child locks on, and he put tape over her eyes,” said Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald.

Kevin Thompson II drove 60 miles south to his Toledo home, where he raped his ex-girlfriend and held her captive.

“You’re talking about 18-19 hours that we didn’t know where she was,” Fitzgerald said.

Investigators say there were plenty of indicators that Thompson was a very violent man.

“He had a little to-go bag; it had duct tape, two sets of handcuffs, brass knuckles, a Taser,” Fitzgerald said. “Right from the start, this was his intention.”

Police say Thompson planned and plotted — he allegedly stalked his ex, waiting for her to finish work last weekend in downtown Detroit when he attacked.

He was trying to re-enter her life, and she made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him.

In June, he allegedly assaulted her in public. That was the final straw for her, but for him, it wasn’t over — Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald outlines a timeline of violent harassment.

“He got into her building, knocked on her door, ran down the stairs, and hid,” Fitzgerald said. “When she sort of came out, he chased after her.”

Then, a day later, last month — Thompson allegedly broke into her car, worked his way into her trunk, and crawled out while she was driving on the Lodge. He managed to escape.

In a final act of desperation, investigators say he kidnapped and raped her but told police a different story.

“His lead-on was that he was going to take her home once it was done, and I just don’t buy that,” Fitzgerald said.

When she didn’t show up for a CPL class — the next day, last Saturday — Detroit police were called in.

“From the time we were notified to the time she was in custody, it was about 4.5 hours,” he said.

It didn’t take long for Detroit police to track down Thompson at his Toledo home, where police there and the FBI assisted in the arrest. He was casually leaving his house to get food when he was apprehended.

The victim, his ex-girlfriend inside, was rescued but emotionally traumatized.

“She is doing as well as she can be at this point,” Fitzgerald said.

Thompson is being held on a substantial bond in Ohio — $750,000. Investigators with the Detroit Police Department are seeking to add federal charges for kidnapping his ex and taking her across state lines.

Following media day on Monday, the Detroit Pistons got to work Tuesday for the start of training camp. For most of the roster, it was a fresh start on a new chapter in their career. However, there were a handful of guys who got their first taste of a real NBA practice.

Among those embarking on a new journey is Pistons rookie Ron Holland. After being selected fifth overall in June’s draft, the versatile forward is now battling for a spot in J.B. Bickerstaff’s rotation.

Once the action concluded on Tuesday, Holland was among those to talk to the media. During his availability, he gave his thoughts on his first NBA practice. Seeing that the Pistons have been together for some time now, Holland’s first day of camp wasn’t filled with many nerves. Instead, he’s more focused on continuing to get accustomed with his new teammates.

“I think it was a lot of familiarity. To be honest with you, we’ve been practicing and playing against each other for a minute now,” Holland told reporters. “Just getting to know the guys is going to be the big key with this whole thing.”

Having gone a different route before the pros, Holland already likely had some idea of what NBA practices are like. Instead of playing in college, he opted to suit up for G-League Ignite. Holland would play 18 games for the now dissolved developmental squad and averaged 20.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 3.2 APG.

Due to the layout of the Pistons’ roster, Holland is going to have to earn his minutes in training camp. Even though he was a top-five pick, Detroit has a log jam at the forward positions. If he wants to see consistent minutes as a rookie, he’ll need to showcase how he can uplift the team with his all-around skill set.

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers have announced their 26-man roster for the first round of the playoffs.

Game 1 of the best-of-three wild card round begins at 2:32 p.m. Tuesday, as the Tigers take on the Astros in Houston.

A.J. Hinch and Scott Harris had some tough decisions to make, cutting down the roster to 26 players after all 28 contributed throughout the month of September.

The way Hinch utilizes his bullpen and bench bats makes every single roster spot important.

Teams are allowed to include as many as 13 pitchers on a playoff roster, but since the wild card round is only a maximum of three games, it’s no surprise that the Tigers went with an extra bat to potentially give them a matchup advantage late in games.

Notable omissions

The position players on the roster are more or less what we all expected. The Tigers won 31 of 42 games on the backs of their young players, so why change now?

It couldn’t have been a tough decision to leave Kenta Maeda off the roster after he couldn’t even hold up against the worst team in MLB history on Sunday.

Maeda has been a bit better since moving to the bullpen, but it’s been a disastrous season overall, and even his previous playoff experience with the Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t save him.

Fans might think of Keider Montero’s complete game shutout a few weeks ago and wonder, “How do you leave that guy off the roster?”

Well, Montero has been really inconsistent at the MLB level, and he’s been mostly bad in big games down the stretch. His underlying numbers suggest he’s been fortunate to post even a 4.76 ERA, and Hinch probably doesn’t want him out there against lefty sluggers like Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker.
