Thousands of flights delayed, hundreds canceled over past 2 days due to weather, mechanical issues
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Delay: the one phrase you don’t wish to see on the departures board on the airport.
However, there have been hundreds of flights delayed or canceled for the second day in a row, as individuals attempt to make their approach residence from the vacation weekend.
In keeping with the web site Flight Conscious, there have been greater than 5,500 flights delayed nationwide on Sunday, and 167 flights had been canceled.
At one level at Cleveland Hopkins Worldwide Airport our crews counted 10 delays out of 27 complete departures, and 5 delays out of 20 arrivals.
Storms within the south, winds within the Northeast and mechanical issues all performed a task in delaying some flights, clearly for security causes.
The Sunday after Thanksgiving is among the busiest journey days of the 12 months, and AAA has predicted this to be the third busiest journey season since 2000.
Members of Oberlin’s lacrosse group who had been flying into Cleveland from Newark, New Jersey informed 19 Information dangerous climate made for a bumpy trip, “Some fairly loopy climate up there. Quite a lot of turbulence on the flight. Prefer it was dropping up and down. Fairly scary.”
However, passengers like Vincent Russo, a grad scholar in Cleveland, mentioned he’s simply glad to make it safely right here from New Jersey.
“Flying into right here like we couldn’t even stand up to the conventional altitude. We had been caught flying at 10,000 toes, as a substitute of the standard 30,000 toes.”
Fortunately, everybody remains to be flying excessive after a vacation with household, even when they’re an hour or so late.

Ohio troopers identify driver in deadly semi truck hit-skip as Cleveland man

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol says troopers have identified the driver of a semi-truck suspected in a deadly hit-skip in Tuscarawas County.
The driver is a 59-year-old Cleveland man whose name was not released. The highway patrol said the case is now with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the highway patrol, on Oct. 24 a semi-truck was driving north on IR-77 when he tried to make a U-turn through the median crossover near Strasburg.
Troopers said a second vehicle, driven by 78-year-old Dennis Alsept, was also driving north in the left lane of IR-77.

Alsept then hit the semi, according to the highway patrol.
“He was a great man, he loved his family,” Alsept’s son-in-law, Andy Donaldson, said. “His family was his everything.”
Troopers said that the semi pulled onto the beam in the median and then continued going south on IR-77.
According to the highway patrol, Alsept was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
On Oct. 31, he died from those injuries.
“Accidents happen, however, he made a tragic mistake that day,” Donaldson said.
The crash remains under investigation, and the highway patrol said charges against the driver are forthcoming.

Man shot on Cleveland’s west side, police say
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland Police is investigating a shooting that occurred on the city’s west side Thursday morning.
Cleveland Police told 19 News that a man was shot near West 110th Street and Bernard Avenue.
The man, police said he approximately 38-years-old, was transported to the hospital.
Cleveland Police are investigating this incident and will deliver updates as they become available.
