CLEVELAND, Ohio – Whether you prefer refreshing and fruity or sweet and decadent, a great milkshake can top off a meal or make for the perfect yummy refreshment on a hot summer’s day.
Milkshakes first came on the scene in the late 1800s and were more of an eggnog-styled drink, which included whiskey. But in 1922, a Walgreens employee named Ivan Coulson took the drink mainstream when he added two scoops of ice cream and flavored syrups to create a more family-friendly treat.
Today, milkshakes are an essential part of American foodie culture, and just about everyone has a preferred go-to spot for their favorite shake.
cleveland.com has partnered with Yelp Cleveland to find the best milkshakes available in restaurants in Northeast Ohio, by county according to their reviewers.

Methodology:
This list contains the best milkshakes in the Greater Cleveland area, according to Yelp Cleveland.
Yelp Cleveland identified businesses in the milkshake category, then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume, and ratings, of reviews.
This list looked at businesses in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties. If a local chain appeared on the list more than once, we only included the highest-rated location.
We worked directly with Yelp Cleveland on this list to reflect accurate data. Want to see your favorite spot make the list next time? Pen your first review and apply for the Yelp Elite Squad today: yelp.com/elite.
