Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine provides free preseason physicals for Boston Public Schools – Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News

BOSTON (WHDH) – Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine provided hundreds of Boston Public School athletes free preseason physicals ahead of the upcoming fall sports season.

Often a major hurdle for many prospective athletes, the event marked the sixth time the healthcare system has performed the service for Boston’s city schools. Mass General Brigham’s athletic trainers and clinical connections provide comprehensive care across all sports seasons for Boston Public Schools, which includes participation from more than 2,000 student-athletes.

The pre-participation physical exam also includes vision and blood pressure screenings, and height/weight/body mass index testing. In addition, Mass General Brigham Clinical Research Dietitian from Translational and Clinical Research team will be conducting Food Insecurity Experience Survey and the PHQ-9 mental health survey modified for teens.

“Ensuring that every student-athlete has access to the resources they need to safely participate in athletics is a top priority for Boston Public Schools. A current physical is a required and essential first step,” said Senior Athletics Director Avery Esdalle. “This weekend’s effort helps remove what can be a barrier to many families and opens the door for more students to fully engage in the opportunities athletics provide. We are grateful for our partnership with Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine for their collaboration and commitment to supporting the health, safety and well-being of our students.,” said Avery Esdaile, Athletic Director, Boston Public Schools.

“The Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine and Athletic Training teams are proud to support the 5th Annual Boston Public Schools Pre‑Participation Physical Exam Event, an opportunity to give back to the Boston community. By providing free, essential resources and services, we help remove barriers to access care and support the health and safety of BPS student‑athletes and their families. This event reflects our shared commitment to community wellness, access to care, and ensuring these student athletes can safely participate in the sports,” said Jessica Meiley, ATC, MPH, Supervisor, Boston Public Schools Athletic Training Services at Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine.

Man hospitalized after slashing at Nubian Square MBTA Station – Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News

BOSTON (WHDH) – A man was rushed to the hospital with a slash wound to the neck following a dispute with another man at the Nubian Square MBTA Station on Friday night.

A transit police officer at the station was approached by the victim around 8 p.m. and learned he and another man had engaged in a verbal dispute before he was slashed in the neck with an unknown instrument, according to transit police.

The officers provided immediate emergency aid until EMS responded and took the man to the hospital to be treated for a serious neck wound.

No additional information was immediately available.

Aliyah Boston Leaves Fever Game With Lower Leg Injury

The Indiana Fever are headed to overtime in their May 15 game against the Washington Mystics. However, regardless of how the game ends, there’s going to be concern about what happened to star center Aliyah Boston.

Boston suffered a leg injury during the second half of Friday night’s game, and it was announced that she wouldn’t be returning. Of course, it’s too early to know the severity of Boston’s injury. But the fact that she was immediately ruled out certainly isn’t ideal.

What’s also interesting about the injury is that it wasn’t apparent when Boston was on the court, like most injuries are. Instead, Boston went to the locker room during a break in the action, which made it so that many people both in the arena and watching the game on TV didn’t notice.

Context About Aliyah Boston’s Lower-Leg Injury During Fever Game

On one hand, the fact that Boston’s lower-body injury didn’t obviously occur at any point in the game could be good news. But the fact that nobody noticed it happen also suggests that it was a non-contact injury, which is typically the worst-case scenario when it comes to lower extremity injuries.

But there’s no point in speculating on the injury’s severity at this point, since there is little known about it. All fans can do at this point is hope that whatever Boston is dealing with isn’t serious, and that she’s able to return for the Fever’s next game.

Boston was dealing with a lower-body injury during the end of her 2026 Unrivaled season, which caused her to miss the end of her Phantom BC team’s season and the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in March, where she was supposed to compete for Team USA.

There was never any clarity on what exactly Boston was dealing with at the time, but all indications were that she was entering the Fever’s 2026 season fully healthy (though she was held out of Indiana’s first two preseason games due to that lower leg injury). So one can’t help but wonder whether there’s any connection between that injury and what happened on Friday night.

JetBlue to pull out of N.H.’s largest airport amid capacity crisis, officials announce – The Boston Globe

JetBlue will terminate all service to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire this summer, with the airline’s final flight scheduled for July 8, airport officials said Thursday.

Airport officials said on social media that they were “very disappointed” that the airline will be pulling its service. Manchester-Boston is the largest airport in New Hampshire and sixth largest in New England.

“MHT has worked diligently to promote JetBlue service at MHT, providing air service incentives, a substantial marketing budget, and conducting various promotional activities to create awareness,” officials wrote. “Unfortunately, those efforts were not enough to overcome their ongoing business challenges, which have only been exacerbated by the recent spike in jet fuel prices.”

While JetBlue has long been one of the largest carriers at Logan International Aiport in Boston, some of its routes to Manchester, roughly 50 miles north, have seen lower passenger numbers.

Aviation publication SimpleFlying reported that the airline’s least popular route last year were flights to Manchester from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, seating just 47 passengers on average.

JetBlue told the airport its decision came as they “make a tough call as to how to best support national connectivity in a time of capacity crisis,” officials said.

The announcement comes just weeks after JetBlue unveiled major route expansion plans in South Florida to fill gate spaces vacated by budget-friendly Spirit Airlines, which ceased its operations in May. A bid from JetBlue to buy Spirit Airlines was blocked in 2024 by the Biden Administration over anti-trust concerns.

JetBlue could not immediately be reached for comment on Friday.
