Wyoming star Warns Fans About Fake Social Media Accounts
Online scams are now part of life and pose potential issues for many Wyomingites. Medicare, fake law enforcement, and social media impostors are all common scams that are used to try to get money or sensitive information from you.
Wyoming country star, Chancey Williams, is reminding his fans to keep an eye out for these scams. A recent post on his social media accounts describes a couple of ways scammers have used.
- Chancey doesn’t DM fans. Fake social media accounts are pretending to be Chancey and using many creative tactics to do so.
- Scammers are using AI to create videos and photos of Chancey that can be very convincing.
- Chancey loves that you may be a fan, but he isn’t in love with you.
- Chancey will never message you to ask to move the chat to another platform, ask for money, or ask for gift cards.
If you experience any of these scenarios, immediately block, ignore, and report the account. Only trust verified accounts, and if it seems fishy, it probably is.
To protect yourself from potentially being scammed:
- Be Skeptical. Your favorite star is not in love with you and won’t ask for money.
- Verify and research. Check whether the account is verified and ensure it is the person’s real account.
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto, or your banking details.
- If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Reach out to a friend or family member and run it by them. Getting an outside opinion is a great way to figure it out.
- When someone reaches out and tries to scam you, report that account to the social media platform and to the Federal Trade Commission’s fraud department.
