Mashburn scores 15 as New Mexico beats Texas Southern 92-55
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Jamal Mashburn Jr. scored 15 points as New Mexico beat Texas Southern 92-55 in a season opener on Monday.
Mashburn had five assists for the Lobos. Donovan Dent scored 12 points while shooting 4 for 8, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc, and added six assists. JT Toppin had 11 points and was 4 of 6 shooting and 3 of 3 from the free throw line.
Jonathan Cisse led the Tigers in scoring, finishing with 11 points and four assists. Texas Southern also got 10 points from Jaylen Wysinger. Shaqir O’Neal also had eight points.

New Mexico’s next game is Thursday against Saint Mary’s (CA) on the road. Texas Southern visits Arizona State on Saturday.

Near Raton N.M- The New Mexico National Guard helped rescue three people after a boating incident along the Canadian River near Raton Friday evening. According to the Guard, crews with the New Mexico Game and Fish, New Mexico Search and Rescue, Raton Fire Department and a flight crew from the NMNG were able stabilize the individuals and later flew one person to the University of New Mexico Hospital for care and treatment. A HH-60 Blackhawk helicopter was used in the rescue.
