‘I’ll Be Gone in June’ movie to film in Las Cruces this spring

A new movie production is coming to Las Cruces in March – feature film “I’ll Be Gone in June.”

The film is a co-production in Germany and the U.S. written by Katharina Rivilis (“Triangle of Sadness,” “Je Suis Karl”) and produced by Léa Germain (“Paris Texas,” “American Renegades”).

“We’re so excited to see this European co-production coming to Las Cruces and their story come to life,” Keagan Karnes with Inspirado TV said in a news release.

According to the New Mexico Film Office, “I’ll Be Gone in June” follows the story of Franny, a 16-year-old German student on exchange to the U.S. following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

“Instead of settling in the metropolitan areas of New York or California, she ends up in a small town in New Mexico. In the endless desert, Franny, the ‘alien,’ meets military host families, bored teenagers, strange characters of all kinds, and a soul mate – the melancholic Elliot, who, despite his young age, seems to have failed in life before he even crossed the threshold of adulthood,” the NMFO release reads.

However, time is in short supply before Franny must leave New Mexico.

The production has yet to announce the director or cast members to the public, though the film office noted that over 50 New Mexicans will be employed on the project. This will include 25 crew members, 22 principal actors and 10 background talent members all residing in New Mexico.

The movie is set to film in Las Cruces and the surrounding area in March.
